i recently ran across her work a couple days ago. the painting i saw was entitled "religious composition: archangel michael." in the work, the winged archangel michael rides a galloping winged horse, while blowing a trumpet and holding a bible. the painting stuck me because of gontcharova's use of a very bold and fauveist color acheme (i.e. - the orange horse).

for those of you who would know, i was wondering how popular she was/is in russia today.

You mean Pushkin's wife? I guess that answers your question -- I'm not even sure who you are talking about. Having grown up in Russia, that's about all I know about her - that she was married to A.Pushkin. I think most Russians would say the same.

i love to draw and know a lot of artists, i studyed their works, tricks but i never heard of any NATALIA GONCHAROVA

P.S: My grandmom's last name was goncharova, but she wasn't an artist

I came across this forum while going a Google search on Gontcharova. I'm a French Canadian student and writing my master's thesis on her work. I'd like to know about her popularity in Russia today too. Plus, I can provide more info for anyone interested
