I've noticed that there are quite a few misunderstandings, unfair and fair insults, and pretty much constant bickering in most threads on this board. I'd like to recommend to bring them all to this thread, so as to try and keep them out of most topics.

I agree with you completely. I think part of the problem lies with the Forum Administration. In most moderated forums (this one is supposedly moderated, they say?) there is some attempt to prevent direct personal attacks on other members - and messages which do so are moved out of view, since there are clear rules banning such posts.

However, here on Russia.Com, this does not happen. It's quite clear that Forum Admin do not even read the posts sent to them in the special section especially for this, either.

Firstly, such posts are extremely rude and unpleasant. They provoke responses in kind, and I'll admit that Nonson has goaded me into replies to him in the past which crossed the line. "Never argue with an idiot. He drags you down to his level, and then beats you with his superior experience."

Secondly, they destroy the process of discussion. Sometimes this is because the flamers don't care, and only love flaming and argument. Other times, it's because they are frustrated that their lack of knowledge on a topic excludes them from contribution (and the chance to preen in public), so they decide to destroy the argument instead. Finally, there are specifically-motivated flame-attacks designed to destroy a thread which the flamer finds uncomfortable since he disagrees with the general opinion being formed.

Thirdly, these flame-wars scare-away both existing members and potential new ones.

There is one particular member in this forum, who regularly attacks all new members, and posts new topics with the specific intention of causing flame-wars resulting from them. This is usually called "trolling". I personally think that some action should be taken against anyone (including myself) if they break the basic rules of etiquette and discussion.

None of us come here because we "have" to. We come here because we WANT to. For it to continue to be a pleasurable and stimulating experience, we all agree to abide by the rules. This is why there ARE rules.

We hope that the rules will prevail because of general goodwill. But when that goodwill fails, then there must be some enforcement of the rules, for the sake of the majority of members who abide by them.

Doth thou cometh unto this place, having left your agenda elsewhere, Herr Doktor? Or is this just more of the Company crapola?

Dr_Woland:

Let us view the Nonsones of this world for what they are: Unpaid entretainers, the class idiots, or the circus clowns.

So please, don't take those folks seriously, they are inmature creatures or they have a mental dissability that justifies their bizarre behavior.

But we do have all the intelligence and perception available and that informs us that its of no profit to employ those who can't put a sentence together.
