hello everybody,
i'm new to this bulletin board.
i've always been interested in russian history and culture, but what i know is quite general. i'm hoping that somebody here could provide me with a more detailed info; giving me ur own personal views, recommend books to read and all....i've been reading up on what's been happening to our environment, and i'm wondering, what/who in russia are doing their bit to help the earth?
any names or suggestions?
kavsha

You can have a look at Greenpeace Russia's website at:
http://green.rosmail.com/index.html

which might give you some info? The main problem with Russia is that the pace of change is so fast, and the market for literature in English so limited, that finding up-to-date information in English is very hard.

If you want to read some latest Russian fiction (of the "literary" kind) then the good news is Russia's foremost young novelist has a new publisher in the West - you can now get Viktor Pelevin's work from Faber & Faber, the first novel is already issued - "The Clay Machine-Gun". Lots of provocative ideas about life in today's Russia, with Pelevin's usual nightmarish view of things :-) Superb stuff, strongly recommended :-)

what i know of post-communism russia is based on remnick's work: "russia's resurrection(?)" (i read that book two years ago-i may have the title wrong.)quite detailed n comprehensive. will look out at the local bookstores here n find out about the author u recommended. wil keep u updated.
