Question

Please don't think I'm from tax authorities - just curious.

So what is your job?
How do you earn money now-a-days?

Talking about me - I'm a project manager of a transportation company. At the same time work as a legal consultant (for the same company and some others). And make some business consultancy as well.

I love my job! A challenge it provides, communication with others, places I have to visit, adrenaline it delivers, and last but not least the financial results.

What about you?
Is it hard to get a piece of bread in the place you belong to?
Are you satisfied?
How much do you have to work?
Is there time left for the family and vacation?

I worked for Georgia Pacific for many years in their 'household chemical' division until they sold that part of the company. I was the traffic and transportation manager and was directly involved with anything that had to do with shipping. From that position I went to work for Baltimore Cooling Towers and was able to ship around the world, a most exciting and stressful (at times) position.

A fatal car accident changed the direction of my life. I no longer allow stress in my life.

I have lived in Texas all my life and along with my husband decided to start a horse ranch. We've been doing this for 4 years now and make a decent living at it. Our horses are a bit unusual in that they are no taller than 24 inches.

Anyway, that's me in a nutshell. I would love to hear about the shipping that you are involved in...the problems....the rewards, etc.

benCA,

Is there a specific field and area of that field that your quality assurance is concentrated on?

I was originally hired by Georgia Pacific's quality control department to 'clean up' a particular shipping department and it's program. I wasn't very popular because of this corporate 'two-step', however, it turned out well in the end.

I think many of you know already, but just briefly.... I run a Travel Company specialising in active/unusual/"ethno-"/remote/eco-tourism in Russia.

In my spare time I write and edit guidebooks and occasionally contribute to radio/tv; and I have a small teaching commitment, teaching Management, Customer Service, and Advanced English for Business Use in my adopted city of Moscow.

I work for our Provincial Government (despite all the jokes) in the Ministry of Transportation and Highways. I work under various area; to maintain the safety of our provincial highways system. This includes everything from dead moose to any natural disasters that impede on the roads.

I really enjoy the work, and there is always a feeling of satisfaction when each problem is completed. Not to mention the people I work with are really great too. I find the work extremely enjoyable, as I love going on long road trips through our province - so I know the jurisdiction extremely well

My shifts are 12 hours long and go from 0700 - 1900 or 1900 - 0700.
They go by fast, though. And for every 4 days or 2 nights worked, I get 4 days off!
So, I average about 11-13 working days per month I love that too

I am only a seasonal employee at this point so I get May to December off (not so good) and therefore PLENTY of vacation time.
One downfall: I have to work holidays. But that's not so bad.
