it'll be interesting to see what happens with him. even if he goes free(which probably won't happen), someone will get him on the streets.

Dear Ben:

On the other hand he could be released if he convinces the authorities that he was brainwashed by the Taliban....

He's an adult, he made his choice. I for one view John Walker as a traitor. He should be tried as a traitor. found guilty, and be execuited as a traitor.

When he was 16 and decided to convert to the Muslim faith, his parents should have made sure that they were aware of exactly what their son was studying.

We could have another example of a "Patty Herst" here. In this atmosphere of "Policical Correctness", I can see some pin-head attorney and a bunch of pin-head jurors letting him off with no more than a hand slap.

Dear Soodna:

I think it all depends on what type of court he is tried in, if it comes to that.

If the court is a Military Tribunal, then he should kiss his rear end goodbye.

If the venue is a federal court -- I think he stands a better than average chance of walking -- because, as you note, he'll get a fancy lawyer and a show trial.

I agree with all of this save the execution. I have an aversion to taking the life of someone. I do, however, belive in the law of the land and will abide by it until something better is conceived.

I take averson to this statement, being a youth. Walker had every right to study whatever he wanted. His parents have a natural right to advise him, but they hold no domain over the thoughts of their son.

I guarantee he won't have his hand slapped.

Attorneys are hated, and rightfully so. I wouldn't be suprised to see Walker executed. If Walker is a good man, he will stand by his beliefs and plead accordingly. If Walker still believes in Talibanic Islam on the witness stand, may he proclaim his views loudly and publicly. If Walker honestly recants Islam, then may he also proclaim this as well.
