Read my post to rikbe. I wasn't talking about all uniform.

Your friend has to wear a coat and tie???? Good, at least he gets to look respectable, not like these women who have to wear a hooker's dress code to an office job to be ogled by all their bosses.

Your other friend has to wear a hard hat and work boots? Good, he won't die when something falls on his head, and he won't lose his feet if something rolls over them.

What you guys don't understand is that the kind of "uniform" brought up in the first post is not like a regular uniform. It's not a uniform that is for your safety (like a hard hat), or a uniform that makes you look respectable in front of clients. It has one sole purpose.

So if I don't want to be subjected to my bosses' incessant ogling and harassment ('cause trust me, that's what happens when a young good looking woman wears a miniskirt with no pantyhose), I shouldn't take the job? That's the most absurd and insulting thing I've heard in quite a while.

When I work I'm there to work, not to satisfy some old ogre's lust.

Well that is the most stereotyping remark I've heard in quite a while. According to you, all men that don't wear coat and tie don't look respectable? All women that wear short skirts and high heels are dressed as hookers?
Also all bosses in your eyes are old dirty men?

Do you know the meaning of the word "context"? I never said that men who don't wear a coat and tie aren't respectable. There is a difference between having to wear a coat and tie and having to wear a miniskirt and no pantyhose. I was making a comparison between the woman's outfit and the man's, not between two men's outfits.

I dress up when I go to a party or club, and it's fine in that context. But it's not fine when my boss tells me that I HAVE to wear a provocative outfit to work. It depends on the place and setting. There's a time and place for everything. Again, if someone wants to do that of their own will, that's ok. But it shouldn't be REQUIRED.

Where did I say that "all bosses are dirty old men". I neither expressly stated that nor implied that. But when they make me wear an outfit of their choice to satisfy their lust, then yes, they are ogres.

rikbe,
Don't put words in my mouth and don't take my statements out of context.

Jutka,

I you were less quick-tempered and more careful with your statements I would not be able to take them out of context.

I see what you mean. Usually I state my thoughts more clearly, but I'm nervous today; I have an exam at school (about international law) and have been living on coffee and only thinking about treaties for the last two days. Do you understand what I was trying to say though?

How were exams?
