Lenore

You basically stated my point. GOVERNMENTS are the oppressors. The religion is not.

Any politically charged religion is bad - Christian, Muslim, or Jewish.

He kknew nothing about the new testament. He did not know about king Herod. He was taught only the old testament up to 400 B.C. He knew, but did not accept Jesus. He did not learn about Jesus. He was from old school, from Poland. He was born in 1902. Learnig and teaching the bible till his death. I miss him very much.

If you speak to educated Muslims, they do claim Christians and Jews as brothers and sisters. All three religions worship different interpretations of the same God.

The portions of the Qu'ran that speak to 'killing the infidels' refer to a time in Arabic history where Mohammed was warring with other tribes over Mecca. I am not an expert on the matter, but it is just as if I were to quote some Old Testament rhetoric about killing the evil Amalekites.

When you say Muslims want the whole world to be Islamic and nothing less is acceptable, I see the same in many Christian churches around the nation. I have spent my whole life in the church and speak from vast experience. I've even been on mission trips to 'save souls.'

Christianity and Islam are VERY much alike.

A Jewish friend of mine claims Christianity is a heresy of Judaism and Islam a heresy of Christianity!

RELIGION IS THE OPIUM OF THE MASSES

in my opinion religion is at the root of most modern and historical conflict whether it be full out war or terrorist action. if the benefits we enjoy in return balance out these costs i don't know. i don't think any one religion is better/worse than another and i know that the muslim faith is actually very tolerant of other beliefs.

if you feel strongly against violence then you should not join the army. if you are obliged by your govt. to join the army then you must decide how you feel about killing your fellow man - are your thoughts strong enough for you to stay out of the army against the wishes of your govt. in my opinion and with respect (after all i'm just a junior member!) going to war and asking why we can't all live in harmony at the same time represents a certain degree of hypocrasy. it's a sure thing that you are no use to anyone unless you comit yourself one way or the other.......

Morning Harry

You are just as good as any other member here.there is no rank..you just have not put as many post up as some of us have.Masto has a bit of rank because he is moderator. But when he steps into the ring here to talk politics he is fair game for all.<> The young soldier you are talking to,,I agree with you..he needs to get on one side of the fence or the other. If he stands on top of the fence both sides will target him. But he is the master of his own soul..he has to decide his future.Ofcourse untill his contract is up with the US Army they will hold him to his oath he swore to when he enlisted.

Mr Varosilov.

That was interesting about the Jew who taught you about God while in Hungary during those times. I would say that the old Jew was a very good man..this could explain why you are also.
