Bill, couldn't find the thread, so, if you're interested...here's the poem.
UNTITLED by M. Booth As I sat upon a rock Above a slow, flowing river I could feel the sun's warmth upon my face And the rock's warmth beneath me. Sitting there I became one With the rock, With the river, and the sand With the trees and the grass, With the very air I breathed, With the sun, moon and stars. I became one with the universe. And a voice within me spoke: "Look for Me not in the churches, synagogs, and mosks. You will not find ME there. Look for me not in the holy books On pages scripted by men. You will not find me there." "I am the air you breath, The grass, the trees, All the waters and the sand. I am all the animals That swim, that fly, and walk Upon the land. "I am the sun, the moon and all the stars. I am the universe. And I am more, Much more. I am the best part of you." "Look into your heart And touch your soul. That is where I dwell. You will find ME there. [Edited by Soodna on 4th January 2002 at 01:16] |

"I knew it!
A Deist! Have you read Tom Paine's THE AGE OF REASON? If not, I think you will enjoy the book. BTW, during the Age of Enlightenment most intellectuals were Deists. Tom Paine was the propagandist for the American Revolution (THE AMERICAN CRISIS), and a figure in the French Revolution. He wrote THE AGE OF REASON while in a French prison waiting execution during the Reign of Terror conducted by the radical Jacobins who hijacked the Revolution and were murdering the opposition and attempting to turn France into the world first communist republic. Fortunately, Paine was freed before his date of execution by a less radical French government, and published this last work. " Ronbo, I am aware of the "who" Mr. Thomas Paine is...but I have not read THE AGE OF REASON. I will give it a go...and thanks for the inferred compliment...but I'm no intellectual either...just an ol' gal with a sometimes different perspective on things. By-the-way, I think you and I are of an age...I think I remember you stating somewhere back in time that you graduated from highschool in 1966...do I remember correctly?? |
