whts wrong with this picture?

Firs off i know that a few of you think that i am a liberal bleedin heart pinko pot smoking viet nam vet, well...you sort of right, but a "closed mind is a terrrible thing to waste". In 2000 when i visited Croatia, not long after their war, i was shocked to see how few homeless, and begger there were, even in a coutry that lives on an average of 450 dollar a month, for a family! That is less than our wefare pays! The pride i saw in the people whether rich or poor was unbelievable. So I come back to america, one of wealthy nations of the world, and the lack of Dignity in our population struck me as very ironic. Either half of the population rich or poor, say they are Bi-polor, so many are on prozac, paxel, zolof, whatever it takes to make them feel ok..... im confused. We have such a beautiful country, work is all over if you really want it, and remember many of these people on these drugs are hard working folks, my question why are we all such whiners? Now Dix, dont blame it on politics, dope, liberal, whatever...this problem crossed all class and cultural barriers. is it tv? too much of anything we want, and not enough of wht we need? I refuse to give into the fact that 20 percent of our nation is Mentaly ill. I have read when imigrants arrive in this country it takes about 2 years and deppresion and mental problems set in? anybody got a ideas? later

Well, I am a liberal myself ... and I dont consider that a dirty word at all
Nationalism is as much a religion as any other. And to defend USA, come what may, is the "blind faith" of the extreme rightists.

I still think that the West (USA in particular) is the best we have as far as scientific rationalism goes.
But thats just when compared to the rest of the world. Over time, there probably has been a decline.

Very often in history, we've seen the case of the "closeted one". A person who is "apparently" feverously against a certain lifestyle, yet in reality is the biggest participant in said lifestyle. An example would be the gay-basher, who in reality visits the local gay bath houses for sex on a regular basis. Or, the man of cloth, who in reality is a philanderer and a thief. I wonder if this may not be the case with our man, Dix, and his hidden drug use.

In contemporary America the right wing stands for a strong defense establishment, but desires not one inch of foreign soil and hopes for good relations with all countries. In terms of economics, the American conservative see laissez-faire capitalism as the ideal system, and desire low taxes and free trade. Also, the conservative is "Patriotic" and loves his country, but understands that foreigners love their countries as well.

However, I don't expect a liberal, i.e., a socialist to understand what I've just said, as socialists and conservatives speak different languages -- the socialist speaks the language of irrationalism and emotionalism, and the conservative reason and rationalism.

I have to say that the system lends itself to NATIONALISTIC
BRAINWASHING. It is easy to like slogans that tell us that we are the BEST. We have a mission to save FREEDOM for the world.

Yep, FREEDOM in KUWAIT? We are no longer the best. Our standard of living is SECOND CLASS.
