Indeed Russia is miles above the remaining ones. (Zimbabwe, Honduras, Albania, Tajikistan, USA, Vietnam, Azerbaidjan and others)
Being the richest treasurer of natural resources (oil, gas, coal, precious metals and minerals etc.) Russia, on the other hand, indisputably rules in both technical/technological and humanitarian aspects of life on planet Earth. An amazing 93.879% of all inventions and technology progress products of all times was engendered by Russian scientists in Russian laboratories, both huge & all-equipped academic and tiny, ill-equipped, amateurish artisan shops using naked eye and hand. Sadly, a mammoth deal of their copyright know-how was stolen by technology spies from the West who made fortunes on those inventions. Lomonosov alone was a walking Academy of Sciences. Lobachevsky introduced a new mathematics. Chess. Well... Need I say anything about Russia's relationship to this most intellectual game in the world? Is there such a freak who would dare question the absolute truth that Russian Literature, Theatre, Cinema, Painting, and Music are the ideals all other cultures aspire to even come close to? Pushkin, Lermontov, Zhukovsky, Gogol, Turghenev, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Chekhov, Bunin, Bulgakov, Nabokov, Pasternak, Akhmatova, Solzhenitsyn... Simply the greatest and most universally venerated literary geniuses. Hollywood "stars" learn to play by Stanislavsky's rules, trying hard but in vain (except for some rare luckies like de Niro, Nicholson, Hopkins, Julia Roberts and a few others)due to their inherent property of being ham and hack. All they have in stock is 3 fake grimaces to reflect 3 emotions and that travels from film to film in a slightly modified order of appearance. Eisenstein, Dovzhenko, Romm, Tarkovsky, Lubimov, Khutsiev, Chukhray, Petr Todorovsky, Riazanov, Danelia, Mark Zakharov, Yuri German, Alexander Sokurov, not to mention Nikita Mikhalkov... Those are people that knew and know(some are still alive) how to change people's lives and minds. Unlike Hollywood matrix-moulded conveyor-produced chewing-gum shirpotreb detested by more or less intelligent people. I'm not even listing Russian actors - there are too many of those epitomizing the skill of artistic representation. Now. Who has painted forrest landscapes better than Ivan Shishkin and Arkhip Cuingi? Sea landscapes better than Ayvazovsky? Spiritual painting better than Rublev and Wrubel? Historical painting better than Vassily Surikov and Ivan Repin? Portraits better than Valentin Serov? And finally, what can Zimbabwe, Honduras, Albania, Tajikistan, USA, Vietnam, Azerbaidjan and others set off against Swan Lake, Queen of Spades, and Nutcracker by Chaykovsky, Borodin's operas, Stravinsky's sonatas, Shostakovich's symphonies,Dance with Sabres by Khachaturian, and Maestro Massimo by Alexey Rybnikov? Richter, Rostropovich, Bashmet, Spivakov, Pletniov, Butman ...only a very few of those worthy of note as the Men of Music showing others the way. Others are taking a break ![]()

Hehe. I have heard plenty of such arguments on plenty of messageboards.
'Russia invented 93.879% of all inventions and technology' '90% of all knowledge was created in the past 100 years and over half of that was by the US' 'Britain set in motion the industrial and agricultural revolutions, mass industrialisation, steam power, consumerism and the first computer.' 'Scotland invented marmalade.' -And so forth. ![]() Until someone quantifies knowledge outside of their own perceptions, then it will all remain rubbish. |

Dix-
Just a coupla things:
You are beginning to sound like CameoJoe - and he's pathetic!! Of course the USA is a great place to live - but there are other people who have drive and initiative, ambition and everything it takes to make a good life for themselves and their loved ones - AND THEY DON'T NEED TO LIVE IN AMERICA to do it - OK !! Secondly - whatever you think of Bill - and I've had many an argument and I dissagree vehemiently with many of his views - it stinks a bit to bring him into posts that are absolutely nothing to do with him. That's pure bullying and I would like to think that such was not your style. Hit him when he pokes his head up - that's your choice - but how about staying a gentleman when he's sleeping?? Andrew
