O.K., now thta I've got your attention...
I'm STILL trying to find someone who can help me locate firfighter's patches/badges from the Russias. I'd love to be able to give this to my daughter as a Christmas gift. Since her father's side of the family is Russian & she's a firefighter, thought she'd like the idea. IS ANYONE out there able to help? I've been hoping someone would answer my original post since Thanksgiving!

Cat, one suggestion: go to Bryton Beach,
I think there you could find anything you want...since it is a russian area...they sell a lot of staff, you will be surprised.

Fire up your granny wagon!~ It is going to be a long drive to Brooklyn!!! LMAO!!

Brighton Beach, the famous Russian community is approximately 1,500 miles (2,400 km.) from Daytona Beach. If I recall, you live in South Florida? Long drive.

Some uninformed people hear "beach" and automatically assume it is in Florida!

Check out their web site: www.brightonbeach.com

I will write my son in Moscow and see if Izmailovski Park is open. I doubt it is in winter, because it is an outdoor market that sells all kinds of souveniers and badges.

During the summer, it was open and I saw every badge imaginable. Military etc., hats, uniforms you name it.

I will keep you posted, dear.

Greetings,
You are not going to believe this, but here goes anyway. The uniform hat issued to the
Russian Infantry, makes a great fishing hat.
I got one from a soldier in front of the Matyas Pince Restaurant in Budapest, in 1990
for Five Dollars. Since I got this hat, I really started catching fish. The best part is, that it really pisses off all the REDNECKS. They can not stand the BIG RED STAR
on the hat. When I pull into a fishing spot with my boat, and put on my hat, all the other boats just leave. I hope that you can visualize this. I have been offered
BIG MONEY not to wear the hat, but as long as I keep catching fish, NO DEAL

Ungaro, I also purchased one just like it last summer in Moscow's Ismailovsk Park. It is made of fur and has a big red star too.

I love fishing for rainbow trout and coho and chinook salmon. Guess what I am going to wear on my head when the spring run starts?
Thanks for the tip.

Boy will that piss off a lot of people when I go to Michegan to the Big and Little Manestee river dam for the steelheads.
Yes!!! I love to be different! I embrace it!! Yes!!! Where the heck did I put my waders?

ungaro, what rednecks are you talking about? Around here, it is all the rage at the gun shows to have old soviet military insignia, including the Red Star, etc and wear them.

Do you think I will need a big fur hat in Las Vegas? Maybe, it got down to 5 degrees C last night. Brrrrr. It will only be about 13 degrees today. I guess winter has arrived. Better put on the long sleeve shirt, maybe even a sweater. Anyone else having such a harsh winter? (snicker-snicker)
