Recently on German television there was a broadcast about the Russian army. Let me say: I am happy that I was in another army.
Yesterday some numbers from the Russian themselfes, show how bad the condition are: 800 are killed during service by officeres and 'old' soldier, calles grandfathers. Additional 1200 are killed in regular accidents and many thousands run away from the service. In connection with the Sakajev case, a BBC crew followed a unit of Russians in Chejhenia (?). After sunset, the Russian soldier went to the forests for selling their rifles, so they had money to send home. Guess who they sold it too !!

hey natashka.... I dont think hes making enemies... I think that hes just trying to study the great russian army...
I mean what can I tell you... RUssian army and people in it are great... But what you have to understand is that Russia is a very tough place to live in right now.... Only the tough survive.... And its unforunate that there are people like the one he mentioned... But sh!T... Theyre weak... And to a sense I understand what they are doing.... Theres nothing like coming home to an empty fridge... Theres no word in the world that could describe the feeling of not being able to give your kids a piece of bread... Those kids that are selling the guns have good intentions in mind and its really sad that they have to go through that.... But to me its nothing new... Manyof my friends back there are thinking what theyll eat next... I also have many friends there who are thinking whether to buy new rims for their BEnz SO I tell you what... IF that gun will feed his hungry little brother or sister... I wont hold one single thing against him..... >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Concerning the generals and such abbusing the smaller ranked... Thats by far not news to me... Thats the reason why every single kid dreds the moment he goes there... But sh!t.... When they come out... The feeling they have surpasses the feeling a person would get from climbing EVERERST.... One more thing..,.. "Whats doesnt kill us is only making us stronger"... Russian people have been through alot a whole lot.... And day by day night by night.... Theyr growing stronger and stronger.... And this is the reason that RUssia will be a GREAT country once again... ANd the reason that America has something to fear... AMericans have more and more privledges and those priveledges are only making them weaker and lazier.... SO to sum it up... Its nothing new... And its unforunate that the topic starter was soooo surprised by this..l..

My point in posting this was to indicate that the Russian gouverment has another problem to deal with. Basically as an International economist find it extremely strange that Russia with a trade surplus and a state budget there more than balance. These money should be should be used to R&D, pensions, education etc. so develop the country. One of the problems Russia has is the strange war in Causasus - but with ill funds and management Russia can't end the war, which will Russia will benefit from. Russia has all the 'aces' on the hand: natural resources, industry, a good educational system. She does 'just' need to optimize its ressources. I hope she does it soon !!!
