O.K. The U.S.S.R. was broken-up in 1991...what's your point? How about the direction of russia today? Is president Vladimir Putin the best president, or is he the best bet? He WAS elected...[Perhaps you could name an alternative option, better suited....!?!] Wouldn't it be nice to blame everything on the Chechen war....isn't that an "internal war of the region?" Is or is not Putin attempting to MANAGE the war? The violence, the rapes, the purging....what is the scientific correlation between President Vladimir Putin and the war? Perhaps, you as a scholar could break-down for us russia.com visitors-- the necessary & pertinent objectives? There IS a problem [to put it mildly] what do you recommend? Sincerely, Natash |

As I see it: some former soviet republics strive towards civilization and democracy. Others retained the old communist leaders, politics and methods. If you compare all former socialist block countries, it’s easy to notice: those who purified their politics and politicians through the lustration - succeeded on the way of democracy and integration to the western world. The majority of Russian Russians subconsciously want to see Russia as an Absolute Monarchy, but at the same time want to have quality of life and enjoy same freedom as in the western world. To please hope of Russians for freedom Putin makes phony ellections, shakes hands with buddy George and Gerhard. I believe none of the SPSU, even more so KGB officers should be allowed to hold any government position. But it’s only in case of building a real democratic state. As it’s clearly seen: Communists, KGbists can’t build anything but CPSU-USSR.

As an American, I have to say that I like V. Putin. He's the kind of president we used to have-until the American election of 2000 was fixed. Putin is a strong leader who doesn't put up with any B.S. and does what he has to do to lead Russia.
I like how he put Bush in his place when Bush complained about Russian democracy. What the hell does Bush know about democracy? His family fixed the damn election at least once-and possibly TWICE. Putin is the kind of president America had and needs. He reminds me of Jack Kennedy and Bill Clinton. You're lucky to have him because he knows how to lead Russia and I believe he has Russia's best interests at heart. He's a hell of a lot better than who we have!!!!!
