Castlestormer:

How does a country lose it's middle class?

According to the stratification of the system, communist or capitalist or a combo--the "middle class" is the most important tool of manipulation! The middle class is the largest class of consumer, the main target of advertisement, of propraganda....

For crying out loud, the repression of sexuality of this class (if not carefully monitored)--could be the ruin of it all...

In addition, I'd really enjoy seeing you have a debate with President Putin! I'll hand you tissues, or hose off your sweat (with a firehose).

You love russia, what have you done to change russia--even on a small-scale personal level?

Is it my "blind" loyalty or admiration you despise? How close are you to military mentality? Plenty of people don't like Bush or the War in Iraq--yet somehow manage to find a way in their heart to respect the men & women who fight for this country!

What a great question. I love it. Questions like that one seperate the men from the boys, and seperate the Internet talking wannabees from those who have earned the right to say what they say. I was sitting here wondering which story to post to answer that one. I could mention buying McDonalds hamburgers for a group of children who didn't have the money, or helping myriads of down-trodden people in the Metro systems of Moscow, or we won't even mention the word "orphanage". But here is a good one.

I was leaving a place where expats hang out in Moscow called Doug and Marty's Boar House late one night. Walking to the Kurskaya metro station, there was a girl who was about 16 who was struggling with an older guy. She was obviously drunk and about to be raped by a couple of less than honorable men in a dark passageway. Acting without really thinking, I intervened. Luckily a very elegant lady wearing fur somehow mysteriously appeared right at a crucial time and spoke very harshly to them in Russian. They dropped her and left cursing me in Russian. The girl got up, and went away, not only not thanking me, but yelling at the both of us. The lady then spoke to me in perfect English letting me know that I should be more careful because there are some really bad people in Russia. Then she said something to me that I will always remember: "Maybe I am your guardian angel". She walked away and seemed to disappear in the falling snow.

Did I make a difference in the life of one teenage girl in Moscow on a cold snowy night? Maybe. I'd like to think I did. But who really knows. And did I make a difference in the life of four Russian thugs who think they can do whatever they want to whomever they want? Maybe. At least they all know that there is one person out there who gives a damn and won't just walk by injustice and oppression without doing something about it. Helping people in Russian is extremely difficult because they don't have a culture where charity has been a way of life like America. But the bottom line is that we do something, however small. And then watch the ripples spread.

Dear Castlestormer:

I have experienced the intellectual/philosophical stage or status that you're experiencing...

You want credit, you want "a pat" on the back, you want acknowledgement for your kind and/or good deeds. It's possible that you don't really do these things, or behave this way because you are kind or good?

Or is it an "impulsive" reaction? What label are you seeking? From what group of individuals? I won't dare to say that you didn't put yourself in potential danger...you may have saved a girl from being raped or robbed....

Of course, cops and firefighters don't run around bragging about how many fires they put out, or cats they saved from trees or domestic fights they broke up...[and of course cops & firefighters get a lot more respect than we do]! But from what side of the fence?

Did you do it because it was the right thing to do?

[continued]; Castlestormer:

It's your reference to the orphanages & the food for the children (lack of money) that proves detrimental to your character in my eyes...

You mention poverty, as most westerners do....but what about "state of mind?"

Is your basic point...."that you are a sensitive man?" Stalin was a sensitive man as well.

**********************************************************************************
You've never mentioned these children by name, you never mention a bond, you never mention frienship, you never mention playing, you never mention respect for their strength....
**********************************************************************************
You fed them. Who do you want thanks from? Did they thank you? Is that good enough?

Castlestormer:

A couple of better questions for you:

1) What did you learn from the russians?

2) What did the russians take from you in the process?

3) What do you keep forever, that you've taken away from the[se] russians?

Sincerely,
Natalie

LOL! That's funny. You asked me a question. I answered it. And now you say that I did so because I only want the credit. Do some research and you will see that the only time I ever mention being in Russia is to answer some sort of attack by people like you. You asked me the question. I didn't volunteer the information.

I'll get all the credit I want someday by my King who sees every sparrow fall. He is the only one I want to impress. Not people on the Internet.

Did I do it because it was the right thing to do? Absolutely!!!!!!!!!! If more people did the right thing this world would be a better place.
