After gaining his vision the aspirants yearning for god becomes intense and the worldly charms becomes unattractive to him. The more he draws the nearer god the more he withdraws from the world. Infact, the devotee need not make an effort to do it. It is enough if he remains steadfast in his devotion to god. Due to ignorance man thinks that the worldly attractions are the ultimate and seeks the happiness from them. His sorrows and frustrations are due his inability to see the fleeting nature of all worldly relationships and joys. It is this search for eternal happiness that urges man on to the spiritual path and once this devotion becomes steady, the mind gets weaned from worldly attractions on its own accord. The mind has the characteristics of acquiring the qualities of the object of its preoccupation. So when the mind dwells on god it acquires divine like qualities. When a person develops a taste for spiritual life is drawn to the divine name, as it is the concrete form of god. The association between the name and form is apparent even in all worldly experiences. Though god vision is possible is only when the devotee's mind becomes pure, the very nature of the divine name is such that it creates a longing for his vision. This is the effect of chanting god's names through japa or hymns. The divine name is capable of neutralizing all the sins of man and the latent tendencies that prompt his mind to run after sensory pleasures are also rooted out. The divine name is like fire that can consumes any Kind of fuel and reduces it to ashes. What is essential was faith in god and regular prayer, said swami Gautamananda in his discourse. Unfortunately, we are more punctual in keeping our worldly appointments. This is because we cannot see god and in the initial stages of spiritual life it is more a matter of faith. Prayer is essentially a meeting with god at an appointed hour everyday. When one is sincere and regular about it one derives immense mental peace and the certitude of communion with god. The effort that a spiritual aspirant make is recompensed a hunderedfold by god and hence till he realizes god he must sustain his faith diligently through prayer.
