Don't quote me on this but I think that there were one or two other monothiestic religions predating Judiaism, they just are non existant for the most part today. I could be wrong though. I don't kow much about it though, but I don't agree with it. Thats all I know, but I am interested in learning more about it.

shalom tamar_yehuda, and welcome to Russia.com. _____________________________________________ Before attempting to answer your question and sharing my limited knowledge on Judaism, I wish to state that THE EDGE is correct in that there where indeed monotheistic religions prior to belief in YHWH. _____________________________________________ Judaism was of the ancient Hebrews which sets forth a life of religious duty in accordance with Scripture and rabbinic tradition. Out of this developed rigid conformity to rites, the cermonies, and the practices peculiar to the Jewish people. The culture and social order that sprung from this religion are rather unique in history. _____________________________________________ What few people inquire into these days is the 'transcendential' nature of Judaism. One's rabbi/e will occasionally speak of it, but there is no focused effort to explain it in its fullest implication. _____________________________________________ With YHWH be a 'transcendent' G-D i.e., that which is lying beyond the limits of ordinary experience, how is one to know YHWH? Too, as Kant puts it: that which lies beyond all possible experience and knowledge. He (Kant) is saying that it is beyond comprehension, indeed, transcending the entire universe and all therein. _____________________________________________ Are the Transcendentalist correct in their views, or is Kant right? Or is the answer to be found in mystical works like the Zohar? _____________________________________________ We have here a subject that will require a lot of time and thought if justice is to be rendered by all. Peace

Thank you for your answers.
To answer edge.: The history of monotheistic religion: first, there was Adam who lived in heaven. He communicated to God directly, so there was no need in religion to contact him to God, or for prooving him that God exists. Then Adam was sent from heaven, and he carried with him the knowledge of God. At the time of his grandchild,"Enosh", the people started to pray and work for the stars, the wood, and the stones. All these are considered to be ministers of God. People started to belive in them, and it was not forbidden for them as long as they still knew that God is higher then the stars, woods, and stones. But by the time the knowledge of God was forgotten, beacause the prophets prefered to show powers that they can use, to keep people belive in them. On those times, only few people had the knowledge of God but they mannaged to pass it only to their clothest people, and after their generation it dissapeared. Only at the days of Abraham the belief in God came back to the world. Abraham did not recieve the knowledge of God from anyone before him, beacause then it allready dissapeared. He found out by himself this knowledge, by exploring the mistics since his young age. He examinned all what the prophets offered, and he belived in them but he found out that they were all not iternal. He found out that there was something higher then them. Only by the age of 40 he finally started to search the knowledge of God. He was the one to bring it back to the world, he is the begginer of judaism, and since then the monotheistic religion begins. (Taken from the book of the RAMBAM, book of mada', Avodat Kokhavim, chapter a') To answer your information, there might have been other monotheistic belivers, before the times of Abraham:it was by those fews who kept the knowledge of God, but they dissapeared after their generation. ------------------ tamar_yehuda |
