Exclamation

there is a very important question looking for an answer among the wider muslim diaspora.
weather islam is compatible with democracy?
and i want to explain why islam and democracy are essentially incompatible.
first ...i think that we all agree the democracy is based on one fundamental principle...the equality.
in fact the idea of equality is unacceptable to islam...in islam the nonbelievers cann't be the equal of the believers .
even among the believers ..the believer in islam means only who subscribe to the 3 abrahamic religions and then there are 2 sides.
the first side is poeple of the book-ahl al-ketab- the jewish and christian and on the other side there is the muslims ...and even here there is no equevalent between the both sides in islam.
the non-muslims have often been treated with decency but never as equals not even on the islamic impire itself.
democracy means the rule of the demos..the common people...but in islam however ...the power belongs only to god ( al-hukm l'allah) and the man who exercises that power on earth calls (khalifat allah) -the regent of god- even the khalifa cann't act as legislator because the law has already been splet out and fixed forever by god.
and the only task of khalifa is its discovery and interpretation and application.
and no islamic government can be democratic in the sense of allowing the common people equal shares in legislation.
for example if we take alook to the words of some famous islamic thinkers on the 20's centuary we will find more answer.
khomeini in iran calls democracy( a form of prostitution).
sayyed qutb who has emerged as the ideological mentor of salafists in egypt and many islamic countries he said about his visit to america on the 50's he found america...((a nation that has forgotten god and been forsaken by him...an arrogant nation that wants to rule itself)) this is his words not mine
so...isn't there any hope in the islamic world? i believe that muslims can build a successful societies provided they treat islam as a matter of personal and private belief not as a political ideology they want to convence the other to accept it and who is the other? the non-believers in the islamic ideology.
i hope if i could find some other persons could reach my thoughts about this vital subject.
god bless you all and i hope my dear friends in the community could find this post better than the others specially in the language terms .

Hello Rain,

I hear what you say, but please give Ayman some room - he's only a 'junior member' and may not have gathered all the rules yet.

However, I believe his thoughts are of value, as he can see both sides of the page.....

Islam is a religion. Democracy is a system of government.

Islam can be communist, socialist, democratic, authoritarian or a monarchy. Its a religion.

To debate this would be an insult to my intelligence. I'd rather watch this circus from a side instead.

Religion and politics aren't separate in any society. They do affect each other. That's why talks about islam and democracy as well as about orthodoxy and democracy or about church vs government in general, have right to exist and nobody is insulted, if he doesn't afraid of this discussion and has something to say.

Just curious Rain...

What do you think of the Sha'ria (Religious law based on Islamic principles)?
Isn't that a form of "democracy", as noticed in some Islamic states?
