Josephus is some very interesting reading. The Jewish Wars was a great work. But like all "historians" one has to take the writings with an open mind. There is much debate about his version of what happened at Masada.

>>>>>>>.yes i agree ,castle stormer, its wise to to use the bible as a guide for measuring information from other sources, never the less he was much nearer in time to the some of the events described in his writings , just as the annals of the kings of assyria, written on clay tablets and cylinders 700 or 800 yrs before josephus gave us valuable information, yes the kings of assyria were arrogant and proud ,and would only want written down theis victories ,but when their writings made mention of people like hezekiah--jehu---ahab(moabite stone) and mentioned events recorded in the bible.then these records whether on cylinders ,tablets or parchment ,can reinforce the events written in the bible, and if you have a good knowledge of scripture, you should be able to discern if what is written is true, or if the author has altered certain things to please himself or those in authority...BRIAN

Angry Josephus Traitor or Historian?

The battles and the end, a good story, so far the archeaoligist haven't bore out his story telling. Allso, where was Josephas while all this was going on? I'll tell you where he was, he was entertaining the Romans. Even when his people were being destroyed he stayed safly in Rome. During this period the Christian persucution began in earnist. The book of Acts speaks of takibg up a special offing for the Christians (Jewiah Christians) in Jerusalam. I respect the ones who died not the ones that got in good with the Romans. The Romans put Hitler to shame for the atrocities committed.

I don't remember ever reading where Josephus claimed to be a Christian. I think he was just a Jewish historian and Roman kiss-butt.

Exclamation Josephus was Jewish

I spoke of the Jewish Christians, and I talked about Josephus who was a Jewish historian. What a lot of people don't know is that there were many Jewish martyrs. The reasons the Jews and Christians were killed and tortured was because they wouldn't say the emperor was a god. I have no respect for Josephus, he sat in Rome and got in good with the higher class Romans. I go with archeology, where they have only bee about twenty skeletons found,,, not six hundred. Josephus was a writer, he wrote what was exciting, so he embellish. The Romans were monsters, they went every Sunday afternoon to the coliseum to watch people kill each other. Also people were many times killed by wild animals. Then there was a special punishment for Christian Virgins. They would smear the secretions from a tiger or lion, in heat, in the Virginia of a young teen age girl. Then the would tie her spread eagle in the arena, then they would Cheer while she was raped. After which she would be raped repeatedly by the gladiators. Then there were the Christians who were smeared with tar and used as human torches along the Appian Way. There are many other things the Romans did for entertainment but you get the picture. Josephus was not a reliable historian. Instead he was a traitor to his race.
