ABSOLUTELY
There's enough cracks and crevisses in our lives and culture allowing in satanic influences without opening up the barn door and writing him an invitation. It's heavy in Britain this year....I can just imagine what it's like in Moscow !!

When my boys were growing up I was the only parent in the village who wouldn't let them go out trick or treating. Satan uses different tactics in different ages. In this day and age Satan isn't taken seriously by most of society. He's a funny guy with a pointy tail and horns. Satan is just as dangerous as he was in the 13th century. Back then you had the plagues, though Russia didn't have the black death. The eastern orthodox believed that was because the church was true and honest while the west you had the papal abuses. Satan isn't a joke, he's just as evil and cunning as ever, he just changed for the times.

I got a message on my answering machine a few years back just before halloween. This stranger yelled at me that if I knew what it really meant, I wouldn't celebrate it. I think that was very rude.
I don't really celebrate the holiday, but not because I think it's against the teachings of Christ. I don't think it has an anti-Christian message. I certainly don't think the celebrations are a vehicle for evil. There's a sort of boogie-man creepiness to the whole thing and yes kids dress up as witches and vampires, but it's all in fun. When I was a kid, I dressed up as a gangster one year and Chewbacca another. I've managed to follow neither of those paths. Also, I very much enjoy scary movies and scary music. I like the atmosphere of halloween. The whole creepy, danger atmosphere where the woods may come alive at any moment to challenge me to the core... I like it. It's my kind of holiday. I applaud these people protesting for their beliefs. |
