Nickols, here is what works for me. Get a copy of Strong's Concordance. Not sure what a word means, look it up? Get the actual Greek or Hebrew word and see what it literally means. See where else it is used in the Bible. When you get into that kind of serious Bible study, it won't matter which translation you read. You will read all of them eventually if you are a disciplined Christian with some years of a spiritual walk.

Commentaries like Matthew Henry are good also.

It's not about prophecies Nickols. The Bible is full of false prophets and lying prophesies. There is a great story where a spirit volunteers to God to go be a lying spirit in the mouth of a king's prophets. And God says: "Go"!

It it doesn't line up with the Word, it ain't true! Period!

--------------well nick JESUS was a prophet, and his remarks about the FIG tree and all the trees putting out their leaves at his return to the earth, is what i would call a prophecy---the apostle said that we have the sure word of prophecy shining as a bright light in a dark place--- if you had really read the bible in the proper way nick ,using the testimony of JESUS as the spirit of prophecy, then you would know what i mean by prophecy . h m m ?

Not every wor which spoken by Jesus had prophetic meaning and power! Jesus had no gift to speak prophecies continiously!
