There is one more reason. Religion in countries connected with former USSR was a sign of being "against" (party, communism etc.). In America you can easily choose the church that you prefer and change it if you want. No risk. No problem. People need sth. that's above them. If any spiritualism and mystery is forbidden you're able to do everything to reach it.

My dear, There is a minor mis-conception on your part. It is the belief that America ever fought Communism. Or, to put it in a declarative sentence. America never fought Communism. To have done so would have been a foolish act.
