Lightning Knocks Cross off St. Petersburg Church

Reuters - Lightning knocked a cross off a cathedral in Russia's second city St Petersburg during a violent storm which blew down trees and billboards, emergency services said on Tuesday.

The strike knocked the cross from the 18th century Smolny cathedral during a half-hour downpour. Officials said the cross must have fallen onto the roof as it had not been found on the ground.

Smolny cathedral, with blue and white cupolas, stands next to the complex of the same name, now used as an administration office for St Petersburg, a city of more than four million and Russia's former imperial capital.

During tsarist times, Smolny was a finishing school for girls from well-to-do families and after the 1917 revolution became headquarters for the Bolsheviks under Vladimir Lenin.

Winds gusting up to 140 kph (90 mph) knocked down hundreds of trees in the city and in surrounding areas, cutting off power to many villages. Two people were injured by falling trees.

Forecasters expected more stormy weather later on Tuesday.

Mast,

The news report is no doubt a mis-interpretation of the facts. Which is a near constant occurrance of those reporters who lack any first-hand knowledge of the ways of the Divines. The events that happened in St. Pete was but some harried gods chasing after their mis-behaving children. It often happens when the weather on earth is pleasant and the little divines want to play. You really ought to be more selective in your postings of such tales lest you seriously mis-lead unknowing souls.

Mast,

Then you must, by all means, inform yourself of the ways of the Divines by a thorough study of that literature called Mythology.

i am, admittedly, ignorant of mythology. my knowledge of the subject is severely lacking. i appreciate your recommendation but i fail to see the relevence of mythology in the matter. if it is your assertion that the spiritual realm is a polytheistic one, you will not find a convert here. not anytime soon anyway. i am open to the possibility, but as of now, i do not believe in such a system of gods. i would, however, apreciate your comments and elightenment on the matter. i shall also dust off my copy of edith hamilton.

the title of the thread was meant to impart the displeasure of god [given his existence] with even those who declare themselves as his own.

Mast,

"the title of the thread was meant to impart the displeasure of god [given his existence] with even those who declare themselves as his own."

Would that you saw where-in you are found guilty of the same omissions of rational thought as are the religious. For they all claim their God/s to be perfect in every aspect/respect, but in the precise same breath they tell us the He/She can become quite Irate over inconsequestial things. Could you please enlighten my tortured mind and explain to me how a wholly perfected being can yet show the imprefections of anger and dis-satisfaction?

members of the christian church would argue that god is not showing anger but justice.

i, however, was assuming the irrational in that god does display anger.
