Faith is most important. An American doctor Herbert Benson has carried out extensive research on the relationship between good health and faith in God.He discovered that those who have faith in the existence of an omnipotent and benign creator generally enjoy better standards of physical and emotional wellbeing than non-believers.He maintains that all human beings have an inbuilt need to have faith in something greater than themselves. He also provides evidence which shows the ability of human beings to overcome serious illnesses and perform super human feats by tapping into the spiritual energy which we all possess.Buddhist monks for example can perform feats of physical endurance which are beyond the capabilities of most people by focusing their mind on positive thoughts using meditation.Faith encourages a positive outlook on life.It is not important whether God does or does not exist however it is a fact that to have faith in his existence brings positive health benefits. It would seem that it is better for an individual's wellbeing to believe in something than to believe in nothing at all.

The original form of FAITH is today called WOO-DOOISM. By attaching the label of Religion to it, the WOO-DOO doctors are attempting to give it Respectability.

PLEASE FORGIVE BILL'S TIRED AND JAUNDICED ATTITUDE..........

I don't agree with all that Andy believes in, but I do accept the general concept of his post. Religion is a dead thing - it's doing/saying for the sake of it - it means nothing.

Whereas FAITH is something alive and positive. It's thought provoking and evocative. Faith is believing what you cannot prove - and there are things in this world IMPOSSIBLE to prove, but essential to get a handle on. I respect a person with faith, because they have had the guts to step into the unknown - knowing that they will be met by the God that they believe in.

I will go no further than that, as I don't want to stray out of line with the context of the question.

Andrew

Ones Faith is the most important for Peace within i believe, yet Religion is most important for Social and Political Purposes, easier to manipulate the masses that way. So I will Love the NZman, as that is part of my Faith......(" johnnymaniac

Johnny,

That was great. Have you noticed that you did not mention the name of any Religious/Mythical ICON in your post? That is true, untainted expression of love for your fellow human beings. Good luck to you.

Bill

Well, that is because you and i both realize they are used by institutions to manipulate. I actually am a lover of Rituals..if you please. During fishing you may use certain gestures, or habits, that become enjoyable rituals. They are harmless and are known only to yourself, much more personal than this mass K-mart type. I was so overwhelmed in Rome acouple years ago, i never want to see a cross again! (although i enjoy them from an art perspective) I am not above enjoying a good game of superstitions, you know, like my grandfather would never shave on a Friday...? But it was a kewl thing for him to enjoy, and it didnt violate any ones civil liberties and life's. By the way if...and i say if...i ever were to make a movie, or write a play concerning Jesus, he would be cast as he most likely looked in real life. As the scripture says, "nothing uncommon to look at"...sort of common..lets see middle easternish....sort of turkish..sort of iranian looking. Very seldom is he portrayed in the true Physical as he is always blond and blue eyes.....ya...ok..i'll buy that fer a dollar! Anyway thats just how see it......wait...i have to confess something...i do..uh....i do drive a 78 caddilac, and that is sort of a icon....and politically incorrect..but i like it for long trips...(" peace johnnymaniac
