Priviet, kak dela? I come from Canada. I found that russian culture is really rich in music, sciences, art... Why I'm writting that for you (people who always critical about their own country) is because it's not important to be or not to be in communism system or capitalism... or anyother system! The important thing is that each human do the best of him day after day in is life. Don't be lazy or unhonest, just be right. I'm pretty sure that a lot people are not agree with what I'm writting, but never forget that all what is do by a human is not perfect, so imagine a system in a country.

By the way, if someone is interest to do a corresponding, I will be very happy!

All the things that you are saying are right, it is just that it is not easy to say (first of all), and there are not many who whould listen.
Unfortunately, the life that we've known while living in Russia before the Perestroïka doesn't exist any more... But Cheer up, there are people thinking about other things but money and material staff!

Ex-Russian girl.
P.S. : By the way, my family lives in Canada. Which part are you from?

Zdravsvbuitye,

I am an American living in Los Angeles where we have a large expatriate Russian community. The Russians have added a new and rich culture to city already rich in foreign cultures. On the west side, there are so many signs in Russian it is called "Little Moscow." We also have similar enclaves called Little Saigon, Chinatown, Koreatown, and Little Tokyo. We can all learn from one another, new cultures, new ideas, new ways of thinking and looking at things, and this is going on right now here in Los Angeles. Americans tend to be culturally self-centered and do not speak foreign languages, but that is changing. My grandparents came to the US from Moscow, Kiev, and Minsk, and I have a Chinese wife born in Vietnam who came here via Montreal, Canada. So can;t we all just get along? That's a lot better than fighting. (I am a combat veteran of Vietnam). Any former Soviet or Russian military people who want to correspond may do so at ncc1701msb@about.com

Spacebo!

>> So can;t we all just get along <<

I agree with you 100% :-))

Unfortunately, I believe it was Orwell (in "1984") who correctly showed that nothing is so good for generating patriotism, as a war... so Governments like to foster hatred of some distant (or not-so-distant) villain, in order to distract from problems at home.

The USA had Russia as favourite enemy for decades, but is currently playing with various alternative offers from Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Osama bin-Laden, etc.

I think we - as citizens of our many countries - have a duty to resist this trend that our governments try to force upon us, and ask - is it REALLY so, that "X" is my enemy, or is it merely that my leader has been caught in a difficult position with a female aide?

Dr W.
