And be proud of baranki and balalaikas?
I'm satisfied that we had Gagarin, Kalashnikov, Tupolev.

And like Garik Sukachev(if you know this guy) said:
"to feel that we once saved the world.. it's cool."

Come on. The fundings would have been nothing near as they was. ( for example Su spent two! it's annual budgets to build Baikonur)And futhermore we wouldn't have been able to achive something even with needed fundings without infrastracture what was made during SU.
So US would be not only first on the moon but first everywhere. As a russian I would not want that.

Ponder on that one for a minute, unless that is you dont want to believe a good world can exist without communism.
You forbid me to argue? That's not fair.

mmm. That propose that Russian republic could have catch up (what Su did in many aspects) and outrun (what Su did in some aspects)US economical miracle. But not only outrun, but, according to your logic(superiority of Rus. Rep. over SU), outrun it greatly. That could make us SuperMega power. One in the whole world. Correct?

P.S Decrease of intelligencia didn't bring decrease of brains.

Well, we didn't save the world, per se. We did save ourselves from serfdom under the "master race", which is a pretty good achievement in itself.
Nuu.. with SU defeat Hitler's powers would only increase and number of enemies decrease.

Conclusion? Next target - Britain; what after?

I would have gladly traded Soviet acheivements in space and nuclear arms for a western-styled democracy in Russia throughout the last century.
And you call yourself russian? Pride for something - inalienable part of russian nature.
Weststyle democrasy? What benefits it would have brought us? After Stalin everything was ok.
