Angry

The British know what I mean,That is why they are blocking roads to make a point. We fought the british on this ourselves.I personally pay 1/4 of my income to pay taxes which go to support a government that gives jobs that I,and others who are deserving should have,to people based on there race or sex.I think the USA(government) better wake up before they find themselves in a major revolt.I think free enterprize is great but why do I bust my rump to support people of lesser abilty in better jobs than myself. If this so called thing called democracy works I would like someone to prove it in the USA. All I ever wanted was the so called "American Dream".The persuit of life, liberty and happiness.I am not happy.
We import other nationalities now to do the jobs the lesser qualified used to do.Beware people of Russia you are not considered a minority in the USA.You too will be over taxed here, and possibly in you own country if you are not careful. You will be denied jobs because the government enforces laws that give jobs to less qualified because they are less in numbers than you.Whatever happened to jobs going to the best qualified and hardest working. How about laws on over representation?Too many government agencies?
POWER TO THE PEOPLE

Chuck C:

By you prose style I deduct you are not an american by birth, thus not used to those "Reverse Discrimination Practices", and you are incensed about taxes, policies, and whathave you, and rightly so. But consider the following: Americans pay one of the lowest taxes in the world...Sweeden pays one of the highest.
If you came from one of the Eastern Block countries, I can understand you anger and frustration.
The quota system in the work force or higher education is no longer in force, (it was created to correct the unequality of wages, admissions, promotions, etc. of certain groups: Females and minorities that were openly bypassed because of archaic policies.

What you see today in the work environment is the implementation of "equal pay for equal work" concept, and it will take a little while for people to adjust to it, meanwhile hard working people like you or recent imigrants may find this practice unfair and unjust. I am sure that things will get better as the rest of the work force gets used to idea that other peoples that have been in America since its creation as a country, have the same right to pursue of happiness like the rest of the "white" population. And that Chuck, is what makes Americans different than everybody else, they are rectifying an unjustice long overdue.

My "Power to the People" concept is enacted by my power to vote and to express my views openly under my constitutional rights. Open revolts and civil unrest lead only to bigger problems. Russians, I believe have the same guarantees to redress their complains, but it may take a little longer to effect the dynamics of their newly found freedom.

CHUCK C. - I agree with what you say.

oca - In my opinion, they did not "rectify an unjustice long overdue", they over-compensated and the result of that is reverse discrimination.

Alisa:

I did mention "Reverse Discrimination" in my posting, and yes, I have been affected by such practice. On the other hand, I recognize that Equal Opportunity was the Law of the Land and it had to be enforced.

It is ironic that Equal Opportunity was designed to protect the unequality of pay, promotions, etc, of american women as well, since its passage, american women had made a quantum leap in the american labor force, they are holding jobs and positions that a few years back would have been denied to them because of gender. Comments?

Red face

Bavlin I feel guilty for complaining about 25% tax when you are stuck with higher burdens.I just see so many government agencies here supported by this money and just think if we cut more out we could lower taxes. We also pay taxes on everything we buy and even privlidge tax for living in certain areas. As Alisa says on the descrimination issue, the government has overcompensated and has resulted in reverse descrimination.(This must not be an american woman that wrote this.)And yes Oca I am a natural born american that has been confronted with reverse descrimination for many years. If you see road crews here, the women always be holding the flags while the men work and they get the same pay by law.And as to power to the people,California voted and won to eliminate Affurmative action but was over turned by the supreme court. So much for votes counting for anything. And as far as Civil unrest leading to bigger problems it can also lead to freedom.I personally do not plan such drastic measures, but if conditions continue I may have to take sides.
PEACE

CHUCK C. - I am Canadian.

oca - I would agree with it if it really was "Equal Opportunity", but it isn't. A lot of jobs are not going to women or minorities who are EQUALLY qualified, they are going to people LESS qualified, simply because the employers need to make "quota". I feel that this is unacceptable. I feel the same about certain occupations who are required by law to have lower standards and less qualifications for women. The theory is supposed to be "equal pay for equal work", which would not be the case here. I feel that the answer to the problem is to encourage women and minorities to get the skills and education needed to pursue a career, which the government (both in Canada and the USA) is doing a very good job at.
