China is not a desert where you can see someone approaching for several miles on a calm day and knock them off quickly. It would only take one hidden Chinese soldier with an AK-47 and a few grenades to take out several US soldiers if they were in China. The US can't just bomb a country and expect to win, they have to put men on the ground, and large armoured vehicles don't go into forests. The bullets in an AK-47 kill just as good as an M16s. Either way there would be several thousands, if not hundreds of thousands if they let it get that high, of dead Americans. Do you also think no one in the world would side with the Chinese, especially if the US attacks without reason, and against the will of other countries and the UN?

I have no desire to see the US and China get into a war against each other, but I think your view of such a battlefield doesn't give much credit to the reality of the US military machine. Don't forget that the entire system was developed around mountain/forest/steppe warfare, and not the desert scene of the last two wars. I think the US military would do a great job in such a situation. Also, in recent battles, the US has used airpower for much more than just bombing desert grunts into submission. But you should already know that. As for puting troops on the ground, well, the US has done so in pretty much every conflict. Ask any American General. It is the way that wars are won. Your comment about armor not moving through a forest is laughable. I suggest that you talk to the men of both Axis and Allied sides about where the "battle of the bulge" was fought 60 years ago, and how important a role armor played in the battle. Also, it may be that I have not been tuned into the right propaganda channel lately, but it seems to me that pigs would start flying around the barnyard before the US would attack China without reason. Real good reason at that. ![]() Voyager |

i quite agree with marik. if indeed the us could sum up the courage to attack as big a country as china, and that too , without any reason, they would gulp and think twice for their own good, {considerind their rather dismal falier in nabbing up osama even from a desert country like afghanistan, and considering that despite having the best of weapons they failed miserably even in terms of self defence {remember september 2001???}

r u joking the us would own china. they have like planes from the 50's and yes u can expect to win a war wit on planes. just like japan in ww2 only took 2 planes. Oh and the new XM8 rifle is now the best rifle ever. they come in a number of varients such as a rifle,sub machina gun,sniper,pistol,machine gun.

Think about what you just said. No matter how nice their aircraft, or how fancy their new rifles, the US had better have a damn good reason for invading a country like China. The fact that China can and does build large quantities of quality military hardware is underlined by the fact that the US buys much of it's "high tech" goods from Chinese producers. China is not an ignorant, stone age country. Also consider the fact that even if they were only armed with sticks, the Chinese population could beat every American invader to death with little effect on the size of the Chinese population, even if the Americans "made every shot count". If that were not enough, think about the fact that China is very capable of playing the nuke game every bit as well as the US. National pride is OK if it is tempered by reality, but in this case, it would seem that your composition and grammar teacher also taught history in your school. ![]() Voyager |

Muddy waters
This thread seems to have drifted pretty wide from "science". It is an interesting topic though, and I don't think it gets the exposure it deserves while it is hidden here. I'll probably move it to a more appropriate forum in the next day or two, but I'll leave a pointer here so you all can find it later.
