Russia's economy has impressive problems: the ruble is worthless, the economy is reduced to the output of tiny Holland, and the police-mafia-communists have formed an unholy alliance that seems to have as its ends the complete destruction of Russian society.

Therefore, a rational person would think that the absolutely last thing President Putin would want to do would be to form an alliance with the most corrupt and degenerate dictator in South America - one Fidel Castro. A man whose claim to fame is that he reduced the most wealthy nation in South America to the poorest.

Yet this has apparently happened! Cuba is to receive $350 million in foreign aid from Russia and to be forgiven its $20 billion debt to that nation.

The reason given is that Cuba and Russia oppose "U.S. hegemony" over the world

Ronbo:

<<one Fidel Castro. A man whose claim to fame is that he reduced the most wealthy nation in South America to the poorest.>>

Where did you get this information? Surely not at the community college you keep bringing up all the time.

Did you by any chance received IRs (Intel. Rpts) during the Batista government?

For you bag of tricks: Cuba was and is, and more likely will be a very poor nation.

Now the $64,0000 dlls question: Can you tell me where is Cuba located? I'll give you a hint: NOT IN SOUTH AMERICA.

And you claim you were an intelligent officer?

Dear Oca:

1. I would suggest that you check Cuba's GNP prior to Castro and after. I stand by my statement that Cuba in the late 1950s was the richest nation south of the border.

2. I only mentioned my educational level because of a post by Ungaro who made the statement that I was uneducated. When I responsed to this post with the name of the college I graduated from, he said that it was a "Jesus-Nazi Diploma Mill" and said it wasn't listed on the Web. I responded that Rollins is at www.rollins.edu

Also Rollins is an elite private liberal arts college - one of the finest in the nation - but I expect you know that and are just looking for a way to score a cheap point against me.

3. I have to grant you a point in that Cuba is not in South America in terms of geography, however, in terms of culture and language it is quite close to the experience in Spanish speaking countries of South America.

Thanks for the opportunity to set the record straight on this most important matter!

Ronbo

Dear Vavilen:

The news reports that I'm reading state that the Russian economy is not doing well and that Russia's GNP is on a level with Holland.

I think I read that in TIME magazine several months ago.

Of course, there are several people who post here that say things are looking better in Russia.

In regards to the ruble: I've heard reports that the USD is the standard of exchange and the European currency next best.

Sincerely, Ronbo

P.S. doo-doo is American slang for crap.

Currently, the Ruble (RUR) equals 0.0358 USD (United States Dollar). Considering the present condition of US markets it might indeed be wise to invest a bob or so in Russia, and there are numerous opprotunities.
