Question Future of Chechnya

I see that people are very well informed about the situation in Chechnya (must be CIA providing this valuable info). So, then, tell me what kind of future do you see for Chechens if they do become independant? Will it be democratic or shariat ruled? Will it be "helped" by US by building new military bases there? Etc, etc. I think, when talking about something like Chechnya, it is the matter of being really concerned about the well-being of locals, rather than voicing the media, whether it is American or Russian. Thanks.

Decades

I'd rather see the US "help" the country than see a government influenced by some religion. But would a shariat be better than being slaves to the Russian bear?

But it seems Mr Putin and his bearish friends are prepared.
He has taken over television networks and the state banks seem to be holding big reserves (in gold or dollars) in case of a breakdown.

A healthy and stable country would not have made such drastic manuevers. Is mr Putin afraid of something?

As for the well-being of the locals; I hardly believe they will be feeling well for a long time, especially when they are being terrorized by a disorganized gang of thugs. (Often referred to as the Russian "army".)

Ignorant and biased. Good analysis. I'm wondering, would you actually support a rise in fundamentalism in the name of "independence"?

Россия останется объединенной. это - все, что каждый должен знать...Россия разгромит фундаменталистов и их сторонников.

Russia is better off letting go , then its up to the UN to keep both sides away from each other and teach them mutual respect.

The islamic fundamentalist should bugger off first, then it even might have a chance. When all sides in this conflict learn to respect each other then it might work. It wont work with so called "rebels" thugs that are terrorists and an army from which most soldiers dont even want to be there.

The best option would be is too separate Chechnya in two - northern Chechnya (up to Terek river) becoming part of the Russian Stavropol region with Cossacks given the lands there and allowed to carry weapons and defend themselves. Southern Chechnya becoming a de-facto autonomus puppet state ruled by Kadyrov junior, Yamadayev and other pro-Russian Chechens. Russian army should be replaced by Chechen police units and few Russian special forces units in case of emergency as well as Russian border guards on Georgian border.
Before this can be effectivly implemented the rest of Chechen terrorist and separatist leadership should be eliminated (Maskhadov + Basayev), this is already almost done with the deaths of Khattab, Yandarbiyev, Abu-Walid, Gelayev etc.
May be some moderates from rebel side can enter the southern Chechnya leadership and Chechens from northern Chechnya and Ingushetia refugee camps should be moved there.

No Russian conscripts should be ever sent to Chechnya, only Cossack volonteers, special police units etc.
