Army strength

I think it is difficult to rate various armies on an absolute scale. In any kind of a major war, the ability of various armies to share equipment, tactics, command and control, and supply lines seems to be more important than who has the most soldiers, or the newest toys.

Alliances today are built around those essentials, rather than just taking the same side in a conflict. Also, the nature and location of the conflict have to be considered. Does anyone plan on invading China, Russia, or the US? If so, they have a long road ahead. Even in an insane nuclear showdown, what would the attacking nation do after the missles fly?

It's not cast in concrete, but the better outfitted nations of the world have an economic interest in keeping each other alive and well. No matter what the political rhetoric of the moment, it isn't likely that GB, Russia, China, India, and the US will end up going to war against each other any time soon. What does that leave? Iran taking out Israel with a nuke? Bad idea. Iran would be erased if they did that, and they know it. Having the bomb to gain bargaining position is a good idea in their grand scheme though. How about North Korea? South Korea has many of the largest and most profitable industrial operations on the planet, yet the abysmal north teaches their children that the south is a wasteland where American soldiers eat Korean children for fun. The north cannot seem to get anything right, so it stays on a war footing, and spends it's labor on developing weapons.

The nutcase in control of North Korea might start a war that could end up killing millions, but I doubt he would get any support from anyone in the area. Even China would probably move against Pyongyang before things got too far out of hand.

I just don't see the major powers of the world plotting against each other as a full time obsession anymore (well, maybe France does, but that's their way ).

That was a funny pair of articles. Anytime a website starts out with something like "truthseeker", I can almost bet that the inane ramblings of a rabbid, drooling, card carrying leftist are scribbled on the board somewhere.

Does Michael Moore write for them?

I love it... "if only Bush were gone, the whole world would return to the 60's with flower power and free sex for all".

The UK has a small army of just over 100 000 men but they are all highly motivated professionals. The regimental system gives them an esprit de corps that most other armies lack and because the various regiments are trained in specific skills such as arctic, desert and jungle warfare they are probably the most versatile army in the world. They are also the only army in the world to have almost continual combat experience since WWII everywhere from Korea and Malaysia to Northern Ireland.Their professionalism and motivation was proved in the Falklands war where in several set piece battles 500 or so British marines and paratroopers attacked and defeated several thousand well dug in Argentinians. They fought seven or eight battles during the conflict and all of them were British victories.

Voyager no one ever said that major countries like Russia, India, US, and China are gona go into a war with eath one in any time soon. not to sound harsh but u make good points. the country that has to be watched now REAL close is N Korea. they are prepairing for a war like no other and my guess US is target # 1. from what i heared and read online.

about WWIII, it will happen eventually when our children will come to live at an age of 20-30. because u can see China, population over a billion, 30 some % of the worlds pupolation, now u tell me where are they going to get land to live on once more and more children start to be born, i dont kno if it will happen, but its looking that way in the future

I think your math is off. Are you saying over 30% of the World's population lives in China, iGrOCk? I don't think so.

http://www.regit.com/regitour/china/about/people.htm

well not 30 but 20%, 1.2 billion, still doubt it, check the link.

The People’s Republic of China is the most populous nationon earth. Over 1.2 billion people live in China, that means every fifth person in the world is Chinese. About 20 percent of the population live in the towns, to curb further movements into towns, a restriction has been put on migration to the cities. China is a country of many people where more than 90 percent of the population are Han Chinese, the remaining include 55 national minorities who differ fundamentally in their customs, traditions, languages and culture from the Han Chinese.
