I consider tactical and strategical madness to attack so deep into enemy territory that your supply lines grow thin. Germans attacked without adequate supplys and other front wasnt following them. In other words madness.
About USSR winning - if western allies were supporting germans instead USSR then history could be different. USSR must be thankful to US military and economical support. This made war about 2-3 years shorter.
And you are wrong - not soviets won the war, the Allies did it.

The Germans had to kill of the Russians before the winter came (mainly because Hitler didn't agree on the original plan, to concentrate on one division to drive straight to Moscow) Look at the Doolittle Raid on Japan; risky but important. Look at the invasion of France at 6th June, risky but effective; Look at the Germans that started the war, they almost pulled through, and if they did it would be great from Hitler’s point of view, but too bad, it didn’t. If there isn’t any risk it isn’t a war. Hitler got it all planned out but didn’t expect the Soviets to fight that hard, so he lost.
And if you think the other way round, if Hitler thought that the Russians were clean and the westerners have mud blood, the Russians might be on the Germans side. You have to think, the West hated communism as much as the Germans and expected the Germans to kill them off. If it wasn’t for Russia we might typing German, or in my case, Japanese.

I really dont care about who were best. Both germans and USSR were *******s if I take it from estonian point of view. Both germany and USSR pillaged our cityes and villages and were murdering our people.
I will stay with my statement that British troops are best and thats it.

The best army in the world would target the armed enemy and dangerous military combattens . Any army that would use weapons of mass destructuon on innocent people in there homes not in the army but nice families the wives and children of the men fighting off danerous armed terrorists that are a threat to killing thousands of people in Irak would not be the best army in the world ever they would be cheating murderers and mean people that have no sence of real morals.The best army in the worl is a army that is challenged by another army armed and ready to fight and the one who wins is the best but a army guy and armed war planes with real military weapons of mass destruction capeable of makeing the entire city of Sf a huge hole in the ground killing the women and families safe in there homes is just wrong and makes them evil killers and not the friends of humanity and legal asspects of all the realitys of a real war fight.Not a army with weapons of mass destructuion to kill innocent families is not the best army in the world the best army in the world kills the armed and dangerous enemy in there army tanks and firing army missles back at them in a war field unarmed families fighting armed war planed unexpecting anything at all from there firends and best allies does not make a army the best army in the world.The best army has enough pride and respect to bring it on in a real war field in the war in Iraq and going ther and fighting then steeling all there weapons and using them on there families at home is just totally wrong to do to the soldgers fighting in Iraq to save the lives of innocent people and there families from dangerous armed TERRORISTS fighting back putting up a real fight is a good arem there are no women or children in harms way in the war in Iraq at all.Some things we want help with some times we wanted help from dangerous murders and terrorists and thought Russia would be our friends and allies in the war in Iraq this is just wrong what is happening now and this must be put to and end and stopped.

well being a native in New Zealand, traditionally before the white man came here the wars were sometimes fought between the chiefs of the tribes. So that way only one man dies, and the rest of the people go home. I say settle it in the ring, or the cage.

The book is written by Richard Overy, he is a british professor and has won some awards for some of his work

Well from a Malaysian's point of view, the British sucked because they didn't protect Malaya from the brutal Japanese that caused us Chinese much pain, and after that the Malaysian Emergency, the Communist attacked, tortured and killed, and all Chinese were thought as Communist.
