Thumbs up

Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Viktor Yanukovich on his victory in Ukraine’s presidential election, for the second time. This time, he did it in writing.

“Ukrainian people made their choice in favor of stability, strengthening their state system, and implementing further democratic and economic reforms. Most Ukrainian citizens supported your intention to develop good-neighborly relation and versatile cooperation with Russia, all countries of the CIS and other nations of Europe and the world,” the Russian leader told Yanukovich.

Putin expressed satisfaction with constructive contacts between Russia and Ukraine. “Now is the best time to raise Russia-Ukraine strategic partnership to a qualitatively new level. The Single Economic Area is gathering momentum, bringing significant results, boosting trade and opening new opportunities for the peoples of Russia and Ukraine. Our countries are involved in large international projects in the sphere of space, aircraft building and transport. Uniting our efforts, we will be able to significantly strengthen European and international security, building a single, flourishing Europe,” Putin said.

This was the second time that the Russian President congratulated Viktor Yanukovich. On November 22, he congratulated him by telephone, drawing criticism from some foreign nations, including the United States. This was before the official announcement of the election results. Later, Putin said it was too early to comment on the Ukrainian election until the votes were counted.

On Wednesday, the Central Election Commission of Ukraine announced that Viktor Yanukovich had won the poll with 49.46 percent of the vote, against Viktor Yushchenko’s 46.61 percent. The opposition did not accept the results.

As do I. But still, I think that the EU is a good counter-weight to the US, but I definitely think that it'd be good if Russia formed a strong partnership with the countries of the ex-USSR.

Yeah, and with China, Middle East and South America! It all depends on the quality of leadership.

Cornering the US politically would be sweet! EU, Russia, China, South America etc could benefit from teaming up against the US in the long term.. that crazy dog needs to be chained.

LOL, yeah that's true. But who shall tame it? Anyway, when the US is out of the way, who'll be the next victim? If not all of us?
