Is Lev Gumilov reliable??????????????
Quote:
I have such a question to you Danger-Boy or to anyone knowledgeable in Russian history. A new book of Lew Gumilov appeared on bookstore shelves in Warsaw under a title "Ot Rusi k Rossyi" (in Polish transaltion of course). Would you recommend me to buy it? (it's rather expensive). I turned over a few pages and found his comment on Pereyaslav 1654 loyalty shift in Muscovy's direction. The comment was somewhat funny: The choice based on natural nation's wish turned out to be right. The ink of Gumilov's manuscript must have been still wet when "eternal friendship between Russian and Ukrainian nation" was historically verified by declaration of Ukrainian independence! Does Gumilov make his arguments on solid historic proofs or rather on his "deep convictions"? I already have Heller's "Istoriya Rossiyskoy Impyerii" 1997. I found it interesting and not too nationalistic. Regards Zbigniew |
