Balamut, is that what you are trying to say is that Russian culture does't have a concept of someone being "primitive" or "barbarian"? Anyway, what are the Russian core cultural/moral values? I'd like to know what there are (there must be some,no?. Michael |

Hmmm... I think I'm awaiting too much, cause it's a complicated issue... On this board I judged Russia negatively and A.Ivanov said I'm judging it from Westerner-only perspective... so although I know it is hard,I'd like to know general Russian perspective. I mean something like this: During the last 100 years, in Russia millions of people were murdered, Russian and non-Russian alike. From Polish (Westerner?) perspective, it's enough to brand a country 'barbaric' if something like this happens... But somehow Russians does't seem to be ashamed of their past, they even seem to be proud of it... despite the fact their ancestors murdered millions of Russians and millions of non-Russians. I know it looks like a anti-Russian attack, but I'm genuinly confused by this. Michael |

I see no reason why we should be ashamed. Of course we are proud of our past, I think any nation is proud of its history. Isn't your people proud of its history?
You accuse us but you forget that during all our history we were attacked or were waiting for an attack. The same in the 20th century. THE ONLY PERIOD we were rather safe was the 2nd half of the 20th century - thanks to nuclear weapons we have. So the idea of "human rights" doesn't attract many Russians. The idea of patriotism is much more understandable. So a lot of people are discontent with reforms - our country was destroyed, the majority of people is living terribly worse. And what have we got? Human rights? It is a fetish and nothing else. |
