Democracy

Marita,

The best thing about american democracy is not seen at the executive branch(the president ect.), but at the local level. Each state has its' own laws and within the states, you have "rules of locality" or county law. This is also where the people have true control over government.

I'd also like to say that if russia allowed free thought in its' society, the country would be a leading force on the global and economic stage.

Be Well,

Sid

interesting...

How come as soon as a discussion on democracy in Russia starts, the "putinoids" immidietly make a turn and go to "....but how about the USA?..." thing? Can't take a sustained well-aimed fire for too long?
Another thing....what would happen to a Mickel Moore's analog in Russia? Alex here has been trying for a long time now to present the abcence of a "real freedom of speech" in America. Yeat M.Moore and the likes of him are alive and well and in business. So,what would happen to them in Russia?.....

They would not be able to profit from free ideas or be free to critisize the government. Freedom of speech still exists in america. Political correctness is the element that stops people from speaking their minds not the government.

But if you would rather live in a country where the government owns and profits from everything while people starve and have to put their children in state orphanges, go for it! However I am very glad to be an american.

Be Well,

Sid

Right now I'm not writing long essay on the topic. Right now I'm looking through the URL open in second window of my bowser: http://www.gazeta.ru/comments/. I think while their authors are alive and well, your rhetorical question is "hlopok po vode".

P.S. Westerner who doesn't know any Russian and thus doesn't read Russian press can be easily misguided by statements about absense of free speach here, because he has no other option than to eat what he is fed with, but I know my language, thanks God.
