Ukraine was Russia, with Kiev being the first Russian capital.

Ivan the Terrible was a Riurik and the Trident was his family emblem.

Russia overthrew the Mongols when the former became strong. The Mongols had earlier beaten them with Russia in a subservient role. Much like how Poland later became vis-a-vis Russia (the result of Warsaw's own imperial manner towards others).

You make it appear as if Russia was the only "Christian" power going to bed with the Turks against other non-Christians.

B a a a h !!!!!!

In the present, how about those west Ukrainain and Polish nationalist kooks who support Chechen terrorists?

Kiev Russia wasn't and isn't Moscow Russia so don't fool yourself.Kiev Russia was one Rusyn state but now it's different.Slavs were united in ancient times too but they are no longer and nobody thinks about unification of all slavs.

Russia and Ukraine may have similar cultures but so have Czech and Slovakia who broke up,Germany and Austria that don't want to unify.
Rather Romania and Moldova should unify.they differ in nothing and use the same language in contrary to Russia and Ukraine.

Must apologize, I don't follow Russian politics as closely, just know the bigger names. Next prez would be Putin's man- i don't know, maybe his Premier, whats his name? Fradkov or something.

. The question goes to all, who think that orange revolution chances in Russia are above 1 percent.
Are there such people?

?
Unfortunately for Fradkov he's a bureaucrat and a Jew. The latter will of course hamper any attempts by the administration to make him a successor to Putin, as most Russians aren't exactly too keen on having a Russian Jew for a leader (just like a black man in the US). And you Russian dudes here say you guys have nothing in common with Americans?

SD:

Since the Soviet breakup, Russia has had three prime ministers of known Jewish origin. In the over two hundred year politcal history of the US, there have been no Jewish presidents or vice presidents. Between 2003-05, 50,000 have left Israel for Russia, whereas only 10,000 have left Russia for Israel. Based on the facts, Russia is clearly not what some negatively portray it as.

Polish Mike:

Your claim that Ukraine wasn't Russia is absurd as the Slavic Orthodox Christian ancestors of modern day Belarus, Ukraine and Russia are from Kievan Rus, where there was one language and one church. Ukraine as such didn't exist. Like I noted before, Ivan the Terrible was a Riurik and his family emblem was the Tryzub. Different foreign occupations and a large land mass created some differences. However, the feeling of unity remains very much in tact. Just look at the very open border between Russia and Ukraine.

Using your logic, Poland shouldn't have been created in 1918 since it had three parts that had been separate for prolonged periods.

alright.let's reach a compromise:

Kyiv Russia is NOT Moscow Russia
Kyiv Russia is NOT Ukraine
Ukraine is NOT Russia

Kyiv Russia is something kinda Slav community when it was united.it's the cradle of the later 3 Russsias (not only Ukraine) which finally separated from each other.
the result is that the 3 Russias are now completely different countries and nations with the same roots.
this split is irreversible.Russia may fight any development of national identification in Belarus but it won't do.history has already gone too far.All nations have their own history, culture and language.
Russian military or cultural expansion on Belarus and Ukraine is the same nonsense as Poland wanted to conquer Czech and Slovakia or Spain wanted to conquer Latin America.

100 years is a prolonged period? It's nothing, a hickup.
Ukraine and Russia were separate for (1640-1240)= 400 years!!! One Rus people after 400 years is a fairy tale.
