Well, seeing as how in 1996 70% of Russians wanted the return of Socialism in Russia, I doubt that there will be an "Orange Revolution".

Also, Nationalist Parties are becoming far to influencial for the people to see it any other way, next presidential elections are 2007, so we may see some interesting developements at that time.

It isn't that simple, especially when SOVIET UNION was far more democratic than dictatorship in power now.

If Nationals take power, you will see changes in Russia that are far more democratic, than what happened in 1991-93, trust me.

from my perspective it's all the same.no matter who would rule Russia it will always remain imperialistic, xenophobic and antiwestern.Tzarist Russia,Soviet Russia,Putin Russia..
always authoritarian and germanophile authorities..
when nationalists take power it can change only for worst because Russian imperialism will be mixed up with chauvinistic phrases and try to Russify all citizens.
and even if Russia becomes democracy it will be democratic conqueror and agresor who conquers others in the name of freedom just like USA.

Sadly, Michal_PL, you are correct, but that is how things are done in Russia, it's unorthodox to have a real democracy, because the ones elected are always afraid that they will be killed by a rival faction, or population etc.

Just like in '96 when Zyuganov would not take office even though the KPRF gained 70% of the votes....

Only way to get anything done seems to be a revolution nowadays....

What democracy? Most Russians don't desire it, they know it enough to hate it. Most people lost everything with the beginning of this "democracy". The poll results given by ComradeDTAll only confirm it.

The rebellion overthrowing the Polish imperialists in the 17th century was democratically orchestrated in the manner in which the masses and the artistocracy united in defeating the hated occupier.

Michael Romanov was democratically elected as czar by a panel of boyars. The West at the time had nothing surpassing such democracy. Before that, the Russian city state of Novgorod was quite democratic in its time.

Russia has actually had a lengthy record of cooperating with the West. Moreover, the West has been far from being united. Russia supported the US during the American Revolution, American Covil war and two world wars. In relation to those four major conflicts - Britain, France, germany, Turkey and Japan didn't always take the American side. Russia united with Prussia, Austria, and Britain in defeating Napoleon, the Hitler of his time. Russia played the lead role in that.

There was an ideological component to the Cold War. With the collapse of Communism, Russia can once again assume its historic role of cooperation with the West. Poland and the Baltic are in central Europe. Their views of Russia don't necessarily reflect Western views.
