Brest and Grodno were Polish-Lithuanian before Russia stole it in 1772 or 1793.Belarussians had very good position in Lithuania before Russia invaded it.Grand Duchy of Lithuania was practically dominated by Belarussian origin aristocrats.they would've better to stay under Poland.now more people in Poland speak Belarussian than in Belarus.Belarussians are forbidden to speak in their national language.this is true slavic brotherhood with Russia.I hope Belarussians get some common sense to separate from Russia like Ukrainians did recently.

Where??

Zbyszek
I don't apply to apologizing. I think apologizing for ancestors is stupid anyway and looks like a humiliation.

in all Belarus they have to speak Russian.Belarussians are passive about it and don't care about being humiliated by rules of man who orders them to speak in strange language.but America will change it someday, with a little help from Poland.

Red face WTF!?

Don't be a fool... Belarussian is very similar to the russian language in any case, just with slightly different pronounciations in some cases. I may be wrong, but I don't think they mind speaking russian... even when i went to The Ukraine, they mostly spoke russian among themselves (at least where I went in Crimea).

You really do have a redicilous view of the world... Lukachenko may not be the best thing thats happened to them, but that dosn't mean that they will go off and suck big fat american dick like you have done.

Belarussian as a language was created only recently by the Soviets.

95% of the Belarussian population willingly speaks Russian.

There's no Belarussian Orthodox Church.

Belarus is short for Byelorussia which translates into White Rusisa.

Polish nationalists try hard to create as much division as poossible between Russian, Ukrainians and Belarussians.

Divide and conquer politics.

Russian and Belorussian languages are very close.
In 2001 I visited Minsk. All the advertisements in the streets and in transport were in Belorussian but it was easy for me to understand them. Russian language was spoken in the streets. There are no national problems in Belarus, but some forces try to create them artificially.

Russia was always slowing down national identity process of Belarussians.they are passive and have no elites who would make this nation feel like a real nation with its original culture and own language.

Belarussians are like a little child who always obeys and listens to its mother Russia.sooner or later they will grow up and rebel against Russia.Ukrainians needed some time, they went working in the West as cheap labour force.they saw a difference in life standards between Germany or Poland and former USSR.Belarussians will see this difference someday too.
