A Slavic Union will ultimately preclude Russia as a Slavic nation especially in the East is changing fast and central Russia is a mix of ethnic Slavs, Turks, Mongols, Koreans (Koryo Saran) and ethnic Han (Chinese).
Caucasus a mix of Slavs and ethnic Turks, Iranians,Armenians and Georgians.

In today's world, why do we talk about creating states and governments based around a specific ethnic group?

That invariably leads to different rights and privileges for different ethnic groups, reinforces bigotry and prejudice, and leads to resentment and political unrest.

It also makes people more likely to accept bad people who happen to look and talk like them, and to reject good people who don't. Surely that can't be a good thing.

Instead, why don't we talk about what systems and philosophies seem to work best, and construct states based on them where we can... irrespective of which ethnic groups live under them, and no special rights for anyone?

It seems to have worked well in those countries where it's been tried, and where those principles have been genuinely respected.

IMO humans are fundamentally the same the world over. The only thing that seems to make a big difference in their lives is the sociopolitical systems they live under. Surely we should be focusing on those systems, not ethnicities.

Slavic Russia will be a perfect recipe for the breakup of Russia. Russian federation is as much Slavic as it is far eastern, Central Asian, and Nordic.

Slavic nations like Poland have always enjoyed being British, French or German surrogates; they have always chipped at the soul and heart of Russia whenever they found a chance.

Serbia also set a pretty bad example as weaklings .. could not take a somewhat benign US strikes for a couple of weeks and threw in the towel. They could have restored the glory of Slovak nations if they were half as determined as Iraqis or Afghans.

Russia is better off forming a Federal State and EU type Unions with its Asian neighbors.
