The vision for the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) data standards program is to promote the efficient sharing of environmental information among EPA, states, tribes, and other information partners through the cooperative development of data standards. In partnership with the Environmental Data Standards Council (EDSC), the EPA is developing data standards for environmental information collection and exchange. The use of common data standards among partners will foster consistently defined and formatted data elements and sets of data values, and provide public access to more meaningful data. The data standards are developed by EDSC sponsored action teams that include members representing states, tribes, and federal agencies. All proposed data standards are submitted for public review before adoption by the EDSC and the EPA. The links below enable users to quickly access key components of final EPA standards and standards under development. Data standards being adopted by the EDSC can be found at www.envdatastandards.net.

EPA Final Standards
The following data standards have been adopted by the EPA for use by Agency program offices. Specific usage and implementation instructions can be found in the EPA Business Rules associated with each final data standard. For each data standard there are data element lists and related standard documents such as EPA Business Rules and implementation fact sheets describing how a data standard is to be used by Agency programs. Data standards, EPA business rules, and data elements are available for viewing and downloading in several file formats. The final standards and associated documents are also available in zipped, preformatted file formats for easy download and use.

The Implement Standards page provides assistance to users in implementing the above data in their information systems and checking their systems for conformance to standards. Program systems may only apply for a data standard conformance waiver using the steps outlined in Procedures for Requesting a Data Standard Conformance Waiver, Office of Information Collection/Data Standards Branch approved by the Agency Chief Information Officer on September 12, 2002.

EPA Standards Under Development
The following data standards are under development jointly by the EDSC and the EPA action teams. As the development process moves forward, each of the topic areas may have lists of draft data elements, proposed business rules, and frequently asked questions about the data standard. For additional information on the data element administrative and registration status terms, visit the Help section of EDR.

Organic Cotton Clothing
benefits textile development where to buy organic cotton clothing < wear >
Cotton is the world's most popular fabric.

Soft and comfortable, it's used for almost every type of clothing. Socks, shirts, sweaters, dresses, jackets, sleepwear, sportswear and more - all begin in lush green fields of cotton.

Cotton farming, however, is hard on the environment.

Popular demand for cotton textiles, and competition among producers, has seen a big change in the last two generations - the increased use of pesticide. Cotton is the most pesticide-dependent crop in the world, accounting for 25% of all pesticide use.

These chemicals are taking a toll on our environment and human health as a whole. Every T-shirt made of conventional cotton requires 1/4 pound of harmful chemicals.

According to the USDA, in one year alone over 50 million pounds of pesticides were used on U.S. cotton fields. These pesticides deplete the soil and pollute watersheds.
Organically raised cotton is gradually winning over new ground both on the farm and in the marketplace. No toxins or synthetic fertilizers are used. Organic cotton is produced without the use of harsh chemical bleaches or dyes, and is allergy free. Natural fertilizers, compost and soil amendments are used, and advances in natural pest control, such as ladybugs which destroy harmful insects, have helped make raising organic cotton a viable enterprise. Organic cotton clothing, unheard of a few years ago, is now available in many stores and online businesses.

A wide variety of products made from organically grown cotton is now available: shirts and pants, socks, underwear, skirts and blouses, sheets and pillowcases, towels and bathrobes. The range of styles can be somewhat limited, but new styles are being developed to keep pace with the growing demand for organic cotton clothing.

Colored dyes are still a problem, even with organically grown cotton. Dyes are toxic chemicals, and their use and disposal has harmful effects on the environment. New methods are being developed to address this problem.
Organically colored cotton is being developed to address this problem, and earthtones are now available which use no dyes whatsoever. Today, colored cotton is grown "on the stem" in shades of brown, reddish brown, green and yellow. The cost of naturally colored cotton is also estimated at 20 to 40% lower than chemically dyed cotton. Colored cotton is also suitable for chemically sensitive people. Color-grown cotton doesn’t fade like dyed does; the color will actually deepen when you wash it.

Recycled Cotton is another more earth-friendly choice in cotton clothing. Recycled cotton is cotton fabric which has been made from recovered cotton that would otherwise be cast off during the spinning, weaving or cutting process. A trade name for recycled cotton is Eco Fibre; there are no harsh chemicals used in the processing of this fabric.

The clothing business is big business, and there is big resistance to change from chemically-dependent processes to organic processes of clothing manufacture. The bottom line is demand. Manufacturers will do what the consumer dictates, and so the change to environmentally responsible, organic cotton clothing begins with you the consumer.

Princess...seriously. Are we talking about cotton in the Russian politics area? You may be the most random person who posts here. At least Winston has a one track mind. You seem to copy and paste whatever hits your mouse.

Think about your contribution to this forum. Who does it serve?

because the russian government has to provide food and clothing for the russian people and they talk about cold fusion and there are heat lamps and grow lights to take care of the people of russia.

If there was still a kingdom of Russia they would have provide clothing and food for the russian people to amke sure the community is safe and healthy by being warm and fed. What else is the russian government doing?

Besides I truley believ that the government has to chang the way people dress in Russia by wearing FUR! Everyone in Russia is provided fur to keep them warm and I do not believe in wearing fur ever P.E.T.A and E.P.A. is very important to the morals of the society of russia and wearing fur provided by the russian government is ethanically wrong in my book of goodness and doing the right thing for the people.

I must convince the government of Russia to provide cotton clothing for people to stop the killing of animals and the skinning om them I protect.

Peace is important and they must not wear fur ever and cotton is what they need and the russian government must provide it for their people to keep them warm safe and secure in their person places and things!
