Question

Russia seems quietly keen on joining some form an expanded version of NATO this not unsurprisingly is being viewed with suspicion by many in the west as it may give Russia an influence over western defence matters. Russia seems to be being bought in on an advisory basis with out veto powers.

The time has come for Russia to come in from the cold and the western powers must change their attitude towards Russia and the rest of the world. NATO is becoming more political Putin's stated "One can take another, an entirely new look at this if NATO takes on a different shade and is becoming a political organisation."

I do worry about both Russia and America sometimes as both powers clearly have there own differing agendas. Both nations do however have a wider duty towards the international community and an obligation to maintain peace and world order.

The same is equally true of China, a nation that needs to take a more active role in international peace keeping and third world development. China seems less hostile towards the west than it once was. That said China must endeavour to resolve it’s regional disputes completely within the framework of the international community.

Russia badly needs to improve its trading status with the west in order to support and sustain its economic redevelopment. In order to accomplish this greater political, cultural and economic ties need to be created and nurtured between Russia and the West.

Corruption, organised crime and political insurgency by extremists are in my mind the true enemies of the Russian people. It is naturally, in the interest of Russia for it to do it’s washing with the backing of the international community. I believe Russia does have a lot to offer the world especially within the remits of a wider international political framework.

There are many Russian nationalists and communists who are living in the past. They seem to think it’s a great idea for a county to spend 90% of its GDP on defence and miss having to queue up for hours to buy meat. Younger Russians seem to me to have a better idea as to what life is like in the rest of the world.

Russia and America are no longer technically at war and the cold war ended sometime ago and I don’t think it is really in anyone’s interests for us to go back to the bad old days. Surely we should try to learn from the mistakes of the past. If nothing else we owe it to future generations to at least try to build and better and safer world to live in.

Any movement that seeks to undermine relations between America, Europe, Russia and China including internal or external political forces are the enemy of mankind. The current stalemate and mistrust between these four civilisations is very dangerous. America, Europe, Russia must over time integrate culturally. China for its part must learn to be more transparent and work along side the rest of the world.

History teaches us that ignorance, nationalistic pride and greed tends only to fuel mistrust between people and sometime leads to cultural and political oppression or ethnic persecution. It is not right for the Western Christian right to impose its values on other peoples. America and Europe must learn this however we can not change fundamentally what we are. What use is power to us anyway if it can not use it to liberate people, promote justice and the moral law.

“What the ancients called a clever fighter is one who not only wins, but excels in winning with ease. Hence his victories bring him neither reputation for wisdom nor credit for courage. He wins his battles by making no mistakes. Making no mistakes is what establishes the certainty of victory, for it means conquering an enemy that is already defeated.” - Sun Tzu

Overall it sounds OK. That's what the world should do.

This is BS, though

Russians said goodbye to the past in 1991, not now.

Last 10 years US and Western Europe carry sole guilt of not integrating Russia. It was time of pushing Russia around.

If Cold War has ended why to expand military alliance directed against Russia?
Swallowing countries around Russia and denying Russia access to European affairs can hardly be called friendly actions.

What about hostile anti-Russian propaganda in the media practically on anything Russia is doing.

YOU ARE LIVING IN THE PAST, NOT RUSSIANS!
