Prosecutors Demand Duma to Lift SPS Member’s Immunity

"The Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia has requested the State Duma to lift the parliamentary immunity of the vice chairman of the State Duma’s budget committee Vladimir Golovlev. Golovlev is a member of the liberal Union of the Rightist Forces (SPS) faction. However, as soon as the news of charges against the deputy hit the wire on Tuesday, the leader of SPS Boris Nemtsov was quick to point out that Vladimir Golovlev has left the party and is now working on forming his own right-wing political movement."

Prosecutors Question Duma Deputy

"On Thursday the Russian State Duma voted to partially strip the deputy Vladimir Golovlev of his parliamentary immunity. The Prosecutor General’s Office has charged Vladimir Golovlev with abuse of office during his time as head of the Chelyabinsk Region’s branch of the State Property Committee. The satisfied prosecutors wasted no time and called Golovlev for questioning on Friday."
