Here's the Russian Constitution in its full form:
http://www.departments.bucknell.edu/...t/constit.html As for Belarus, I can give you the constitution, but it isn't exactly effective. If you know about Belorussian politics, you know that Lukashenko is a cancer of corruption. He just "won" the election amid OCSE observers and international analysts pointing out how illegitimate the process was. There are even rumors of "death squads" that "persuade" people to vote for Lukashenko. Anyhoo, here's the Belarus constitution in full: http://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/law/bo00000_.html |

I know well about Belarus and understand your opinion, and yes, I've heard of the death squads as well. One of my good friends overthere was put in prison for ten days without any accusation...and was never given any explaination.
The thing is that I want to learn how well their constitution is and if it's usable when one day, and I truly believe it will happen, there will be some form of democracy in Belarus. If you have any clue of how to retrieve actual information on the situation in Belarus I would like to hear from you, and particularly summaries since I have not the time to screen long newspaperarticles. And another favor...do you know if there exists any comparison of the contitutional law and the actual situation, i.e. a list of violations of the contitution? Thank you very much for all your help! #Esben |

As we all well know, the gap between constitution and the real life can be quite wide in non-democratic countries.
And with the great degree of saddness I would say that Belarus is a one of them. There is widespread opinion that Lukashenko enjoys support of majority of population. It might be so, but how do we know if there is no free elections? Also, Lukashenko eliminates critics, holds monopoly on information, and destroys any more or less popular politicians that appears on political arena of the country, like Goncharik. As a result, believe it or not, most Belorusians believe that they still live OK. In reality, vast majority of the population live in poverty. It's not African poverty yet, it's not even Chinese poverty, but it's quite depressing to see. Annual GDP is US$7,500 per capita. (Russian is $7,700). So it's not on the bottom yet, but getting down quite steadily. |
