Hi
For a university project I'm looking into the perception of risk surrounding nuclear power and in particular whether an catasrophe such as Chernobyl could occur again. I'm based in england next to Heysham nuclear power plant so its an issue very close to home for me. I need to gather information regarding the stance of various people friom various countries and backgrounds and whether they beleive that there is a risk of another Chernobyl happening and why. I would be most greatful for the views of ukranians or anybody really who has an opinion on nuclear energy or the Chernoybl disaster Thanks very much any information or point of view welcome! |

I did a similar report concerning the nuclear incident in chernobyl and the risk here in Idaho, where we have multiple nuclear power plants. In my personal opinion, a similar event could not occur. There are simply too many failsafes that have been developed to allow a coolant issue to happen again. Even though I think that the plants are safe enough, I still think we need alternatives to nuclear power. More toxic waste from around the USA is hauled into my beautiful Idaho every day, none of it properly stored. The barrels are simple dumped on top of each other, and those on the bottom are starting to crack. It will not be long before groundwater is tainted, as well as the surrounding rivers.
However, if you're interested in nuclear fusion, check out the lab they have in either Sweden or California (I forget which). They are trying to use lasers to fuse hydrogen atoms. You might want to check it out. |
