Hie,
Is there anybody who tell me about ozone depletion? I've just been given this aasignment where i have to write intelligently about what caused the ozone layer to thin out, what's its progress like and what are the most likely results we shall have to endure in the next few years. I dun have a science background, that's why I'm panicking right now. Is there anybody who I can talk to? Thanks! Cheers, kavsha.path |

Basically what I know of ozone depletion is this:
Ozone is actually a molecule, O3; three oxygen atoms bonded together. The property that this molecule has that is so beneficial to us is that it is extremely dense yet it manages to stay so high in the atmosphere, hence it keeps many dangerous "space rays" from damaging life on the planet. Another molecule, CFCs (CluroFluroCarbons), are lighter than air, so float up to where the Ozone hangs out. The CFC react with the Ozone and create other molecules, such as carbon dioxide, which traps heat in the atmosphere, causing global warming. That's about all I know, I hope it helps [Edited by 6OPUC on 1st February 2001 at 06:36]
