In urban combat, and of course any combat not everyone is one shot-one kill but in current NATO thought, to injure is better than to kill. I know though of the Delta Forces annoyance at the Battle Of Black Sea with the titanium tipped 5.56mm from the CAR-15 was going straight through and not killing.

Spraying the whole area isn't really on the cards of the British military unless one of the soldiers has a LMG. Scoped-sights make for good aimed shots, and I think the training of the troops makes for the difference these days. A double-shot seems more of a novelty as an aimed shot, like all shots should be, would be deadly with a .30 and that's where the SLR came in.

As for the .50 cal, I don't think anyone would want an assault rifle of that power. Unless they've got a counter-recoil on it, and I don't know of any such development in small-arms. Although I have seen the .50 cal and 20mm sniper rifles in action.

Where has this tradition come from, the Union liked British Weapons in the American Civil War. The colonists liked the French weapons. Just messing...

...although the M-8 is being made by H&K anyway. I do believe the only foreign aircraft in U.S Service is the AV-8 Harrier.

I'll be interested to see more of this AN94.

Limey,

There are a number of sites that have info on the 94, and several videos are floating around that demonstrate its ability. This site, *http://club.guns.ru/eng/abakan.html*, is pretty informative, and has a link to a video that shows the aimed double shot in action. This is the first time I saw this site, and that particular video, but it is an impressive demonstration of the action. Also, the author claims that a .30 cal prototype exists.

The American AWAC system is more sophisticated than the Russian systems. The E-3 Sentry still provides the most widespread and reliable eye in the sky, and AWACs are the most important aircraft up there.
Limey_defence, A-50 Mainstay is not far behind E-3, but this gap could be compensated by data transmision directly from plane to plane. Thats what russkies have and yanks don't.

That's true, it's not far behind. But it's still behind.
Anyway, the Japanese have got hold of the E-3C 767 AEW, who knows what they're going to do with it...

...I always liked the look of Il-76 Candid, it has character, and that's strange for a cargo plane....why I mention this I don't know.
