Well, hello there. Can you tell something about the theory of infinity? Well, what can you say about the modulus of infinity? What is the value?...

Infinity is what you have not measured.

Infinity is the complement to finite. If you know what a complement is, you can understand the properties of infinity just by understanding the properties of the finite.

That's all I can think of! I hope your expedition into this mystery will be more fruitful though.

Be sure to post any answers you dig up here!

Hello again Justin.

I am not sure what you mean when you write "the modulus of infinity", but what you may mean is the difference between countably infinite sets (such as the integers) and uncountable infinite sets such as the set of real numbers. Both are infinite but there are more real numbers than integers. The first is called aleph null and is the smallest infinity possible- the second, aleph one, is the next largest infinity and the third, aleph two is the largest inifitiy possible. Any infinite set is bijective with only one of these three sets- and so far, it appears that only three exist.

Transfinite arithmetic (as it is called) was developed by a Russian born German mathematician Georg Cantor and it is completely counter-intuitive so good luck if you are trying to think about this subject ! His famous hypothosis - the continuum hypthosis that there is no 'infinity' between the number of integers and the number of real numbers has never yet been proved (or been proved that it is unproveable)...so there's an exercise for you

Joseph, let me give you some advice. If you have NOTHING to offer a thread, if it goes over your head, then read, don't post the crap you just posted here.

The fact is that Justin and Root have a friendly relationship -- and another fact that Root will not make known here...he is BRILLIANT when it comes to this subject and anything relating to mathematics.

Root responded to Justin with respect and his post contained knowledge and fact, which is what Justin was seeking.

Your post, on the other hand, gave us NOTHING but a low-level insult. It also showed all of us that you are either several nuts short of a party mix or that you are greatly angered when a topic far exceceds your capabilities.

Either way, knock it off.

That's errmmm...rather scientific mate.
I bet you thought of that theory whilst sitting on the banks of Crystal Lake
with a ski mask over your face.

But how is jumping into a lake related to the THEORY OF INFINITY?
