Angry

My new 550 mhz, 180 meg chip memory, laptop computer was running like a snail and used 98% of its resources and hot as a fire cracker and the fan ran all the time, also I sat it on blocks to cool it. Now it is fixed it runs at blazing speed and 25% resources and never needs the fan... all because I installed a real modem.
The problem was a win or soft modem. Manufactures are using modems that don’t have the chips to be modems because they use windows software to take the place of the modem. Windows was not designed to be a modem.
Does your new computer run like a snail? Maybe it has a win/soft modem.
This is off subject but we all use computers.

Wink

I'm using Motorola SM56 Soft Modem on Celeron 300
and it's working great. No slowing,no crash of connection.
I think it's better than many "real" modems like GVC and others.

Tell me more

Hello Dix,
You must be some computer wiz.

-- right at this moment I have 7 browser windows, three word
processor windows, a database, e-mail client, three "Instant messenger" applications, and a firewall all running.---

I am intrested in knowing what you do that you have all these programs going.
Also my winmodem seemed to drag my computer down even offline. I am glad to be done with it.
