This science forum exists since November 2000. Only a few members have started a thread.

Don't be afraid! This is not a professional forum, isn't is? Professionals have their own sites on the World Wide Web. Everyone is welcome, who is INTERESTED in scienctific developments (concerning Russia).

I look forward to contributions from RUSSIAN members. How is the situation nowadays in Russian universities and research laboratories? Is there an exodus of talented scientists, who can earn more money in Western Europe, Japan or North America? That would be a serious problem for Russia... in the 20th century science education in Russia
was excellent and widely spread. Within one generation this could be lost.

Yes Marinus!

Didn't anyone read about the talking bottle cap invention? ha ha...joking of course

In my experience (and obviously the experience of others) the Russians have been one of the main contributors to the last 1000 years (and more) of science. Not just in the aeronautical/space field...chemistry, mathematics, etc.

glocky is right.

the slavs have come up with incredible inventions even in the last century. because of lack of organization, inefficient allocation of resources, and sheer necessity, the slavic countries came up with astonishingly more efficient engines, gas compressors, jets, etc. than the west. there was no planned obsolescence. even now, a gas compressor company in austria, hoerbriger, writes the books when it comes to industry standards. big american companies in this industry [ingersoll/dresser-rand, ariel, ajax, clark, and others] bow to the whim of hoerbriger.

russian jets are far superior to american equivalents. the american jet needs to be pampered and babied. russian jets are far more efficient and reliable machines. though the usa may have superior technology, russia is more efficient with what she has. sheer efficiency has kept russia on the heels of america.

Lightbulb Necessity is the mother of invention.

Even with the exodus of many talented people in Russia the will to survive, availability of resources and love for the country will likely spawn a new generation of inventors and scientists. We know that the education and background exsists.
