The Progress-M1 transport spacecraft was launched from the Baikonur launching ground at 2-30 Moscow Time on Monday. The spacecraft is to deliver air components, equipment and food to the International Space Station (ISS).

Officials at the Russian Mission Control said that the new modification of the Soyuz medium-class carrier rocket was used for the launch.

The new rocket has improved characteristics and can raise 200 kg more into orbit. Monday's launch was the first time the new Soyuz FG booster rocket was used.
